La Terrifiant Looks Awfully Tough in The Royal Heroine

The Royal Heroine – GII
4/4/20
SA Race 8 1M – Turf
Purse $200.000
Four Year Olds and Up Fillies and Mares

Eight filly and mare turf routers have been entered for this Royal Heroine here at Santa Anita and it includes some of the best in this particular division. It is a pretty nice field so let’s take a look at the runners.

1. Conviction (14-3-3-5 $663.600), trained by Smokey Stover

First up and this is a very nice filly who won the Saratoga Oaks last summer and that is her biggest win to date. She is also graded stakes placed and she should stand a good shot in here if she runs at her best level.

2. La Terrifiant (24-8-5-3 $4,175.000), trained by Our Athletes

One of the all time greats this game has ever seen in my opinion here as she is a two time Breeders Cup winner with a win on dirt and turf at two and four. She won the Breeders Cup Filly and Mare Turf last hear and is the one to beat.

3. Illustrious Cat (17-6-1-1 $451.520), trained by Chili King Stables

A graded stakes winner here also and she is coming into this race off of a fourth place finish in the Hillsborough at Tampa. She has one of the best shots probably to upset this field if she runs her best.

4. Dalitierri Girl (25-7-4-6 $573.000), trained by Our Athletes

You could not have a better pair than Our Athletes has in this field with who I think is the one the beat and this one here who is no slouch. Although not as good as her stablemate I do think this filly could at least run in top four for sure.

5. Poetic Princess (10-3-4-0 $131.890), trained by Allinthegate

Even though this filly does not have some of the credentials some of the other have she is not without a chance in here. She has been close in some minor stakes and earned a chance for this race. She will have to run her absolute best.

6. Silly Sue (13-5-2-4 $213.730), trained by Crocker Ggs

Another graded stakes winner in the field and she won the Very One at Gulfstream last time. She ran good that day and that was a nice field but a flat mile might be too short for her. She will have to run a huge race also.

7. Franke (12-4-2-4 $224.960), trained by Australia Wide

Narrowly beaten in the Fox in her last start when third but she ran a good race regardless of the outcome that day. She is on the improve I think but she will need to run a career best to end up in front with these foes.

8. Fomalhaut (33-9-11-3 $1,016.660), trained by John Henry

And the last mare in here is also coming out of the Fox and she was the winner in there that day. She is a nice hard trying mare but she does a bad post draw. She will need a little racing luck to get there in this spot.

Summary

Honestly I think this is one of the best races of the weekend if not the best even with all the prep races. Top to bottom no one is a huge longshot or anything like that. La Terrifiant is the one to beat. Good luck to all in the field.
