LA Race #2 $300.000 11/16 Dirt

2YO Fillies 120 Lbs

Track Record-1:41.28 (Outward Bound-2014)

Stakes Record-1:41.49 (Snow Peak-2016)

Fresh off of her BC score, Lailoni returned to the races in the $300.000 G1 Starlet and made it two G1’s in a row.  Completing the mile and a sixteenth contest in 1:41.93, she was able to hit the wire a length and a quarter in front of Present Tense.  With her two G1’s, Lailoni has to be considered a strong contender for HRP’s Juvenile Filly of 2021.  The victory in the G1 Starlet also increased her KYO qualifying point total to 30 and pretty much assures her of a spot in the gate for that spring target.

Breaking from post five, Lailoni was able to tuck inside all the way to the rail as she tracked a trio of horses contesting the early lead.  As Laughing Poet took the opening quarter in :23.65, the eventual winner was on the rail in the second flight.  Lailoni was enjoying her position on the rail while racing in fifth as Laughing Poet was still in front through an opening half-mile went in :47.12.

As the field entered the far turn, Lailoni began to take a closer look at the three horses in front of her.  She tipped off of the rail midway around the turn and was only a length behind Present Tense and Laughing Poet completed three-quarters in 1:11.01.  Lailoni drew even with Present Tense shortly after they straightened-up off of the far turn.  She wrested away the lead just outside the 1/8 pole and was able to edge away late to hit the wire a length and a quarter in front of Present Tense.  The latter was able to get the bob for the place over Tell Milady while Moment To Dream ran-on to be fourth.  Following Moment To Dream across the wire were Wicked Ways, Crackz, Flower Of Scotland, Laughing Poet, Greta, and Molecule.

Lailoni (Soviet Warrior o/o Laie) runs her record to 7-4-1-1 and the Arindel homebred now has earnings of $1,565.200 for her career.  Congratulations to the horse and trainer for their G1 Starlet victory at LA.
