Lucky Star Goes All the Way in Spinaway

SAR Race #9 $300.000 7 Furlongs

2YO Fillies 119 Lbs

Course Record-1:20.24 (AnotherBomBay-2004)

Stakes Record-1:21.79 (Que Seras Creeps-2016)

Lucky Star broke alertly from the rail and led every step of Sunday’s G1 Spinaway at SAR.  Crossing the wire in 1:26.39 and four lengths clear of the runner-up, Bourbon West Party, Lucky Star claimed her first graded victory and 2nd stake overall.  The Dumbell Press (o/o Shortfin Mako) homebred filly relished the sloppy SAR track in running her record to 5-3-1-0 with earnings of $329.000.  The victory essentially secures the Calia Stable-trainee’s participation in November’s BC at KEE.

Setting fractions of :23.44, :47.50, and 1:12.73, Lucky Star was never really under any real pressure.  The winner was able to increase her margin by a length at every point of call before splashing home by her lonesome in 1:26.39 on the sloppy, SAR course.  Four lengths back, it was a three-way photo for the minors as Bourbon West Party took the place honors and Apache Farm just held off Mind Game for the show.  Completing the order of finish were Doctor Quinn, Gumption, Tokyo Story, and Shes So Pure.

Congratulations to Lucky Star and Calia Stable for their G1 Spinaway victory and good luck to them for the remainder of the classy filly’s juvenile campaign.
