Lunar Blaze Brings Class to The Dixie Stakes

The Dixie Stakes – GII
5/16/20
PIM Race 13 1 1/16M – Turf
Purse $250.000
Three Year Olds and Up

A field of eight turf runners have been entered up for this years edition of the grade two Dixie Stakes over the Old Hilltop turf course. A great race on a great day of Racing including the Preakness. Let’s take a look at the field.

1. Treated (6-2-1-2 $62.280), trained by Mb Stables

First up for the man Mb Stables and this three year old will be coming into the race off of two straight wins. This will be his first stakes try and this is a tough spot to make the stakes debut. He’ll have to run a huge race to win this thing.

2. Show Shocker (9-2-2-1 $180.300), trained by Maxmillion Farm

Next one coming up in this field and he is coming off of two grade two stakes placings in a row. He was a very close second in the American Turf just two weeks ago. If he can get just a little better he could win this race.

3. Lunar Blaze (41-11-6-8 $3920.300), trained by John Henry

The old iron horse here and he has been around the block a time or two. He has won a bunch of huge stakes races and just won the grade one Kilroe Mile. He will be awfully tough to beat if he runs his race in here.

4. Brilliant Kruz (5-1-0-1 $41.360), trained by Estero Farms

Up next to look at is this runner and he is coming into this race off of a maiden breaking win. It seems the gelding definitely helped him out but these are some deep waters he has to face. Looks a little tough for him in this one.

5. Bashful (5-1-2-0 $65.000), trained by Aer Stables

And now to this runner who is coming into this race off of two runner up finishes in a row against stakes company. He has somewhat of a chance to upset this field if he runs to his last few races.

6. Ohtani (8-1-3-0 $67.200), trained by Sccj Staes

And now onto this horse who is also coming out of the Woodhaven like the runner to his inside and he fifth in there that day. He looked outclassed by these horses in here and I just do not seen him winning.

7. Lucky Storm (10-2-5-1 $355.600), trained by Arindel

Last year’s Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf runner up right here and even though he has done that he has still yet to win a stake. He is talented enough to win this but he seems to be a little bit camera shy.

8. Just Chillin (8-3-2-1 $170.020), trained by Nakamura Stables

The other older horse in the field and he is coming off of a very great second in the Muniz Memorial Handicap. He ran a 100 SRF beyer that day and he should have a big shot in here. Tough post for him though.

Summary

It appears to me that this one is going to come down to the two older horses in the field. I give the nod to Lunar Blaze who has won multiple grade ones in his career. Good luck to all in the field.
