The Green Flash Handicap (BC) (Grade 2)- $200.00 Purse
DMR- For Three Year Olds and Upward
Five Furlongs on the Turf
August 22, 2026
With a BC spot on the line, Luttrell was happy to be returning to the starting gate to do what he does best, sprinting on the turf, in the Grade 2 Green Flash Handicap. His last two times running five furlongs resulted in wins, but he had not done that since February. For the last little while, he has been going longer, and has not been getting the job done but cutting back would be the answer to get back to the winner’s circle and clinch his spot in the BC Turf Sprint. Don’t forget that last year’s Green Flash Handicap winner, Brit Style, went on to win that BC race. Luttrell is trained by TwinTowersRacing, who wins this race for the first time. Jockey J R Velazquez is now a two time winner of the stake. Congratulations to them! The race was won in a time of :55.99, the second quickest in the race’s history. Brit Style owns the quickest such time. Let’s take a look at how it happened.
(1/4 Mile- :22.14)- From the rail, our eventual winner from TwinTowersRacing, Luttrell, is wasting no time and jumps out to the lead. The advantage is half a length on Maxmillion Farm’s Ineedu2party, who’s running in the third lane while Threshold’s Niagra Thunder runs between horses. Positioned behind these three, we have Around The Table running in fourth for Black N Gold Stable, with High Voltage’s Afro Cuban Jazz running to her inside. Behind them, and about three and a half lengths off the lead, we have a group of five about to hit the top of the turn. The outermost horse here, Black N Gold Stable’s Earthshine, has a head in front of TwinTowersRacing’s Bells N Whistles, who’s on the rail. Between them, Foxy Devil (Maxmillion Farm) and Tyreek (Delta Farms) run evenly, with Star Skeleton (Chili King Stables) within half a length. Our filly, Pressurized (Stald Gullis) trails the field.
(Top of Stretch, 1.5F To Go)- Luttrell looks good around the turn, maintaining his lead and getting the upperhand on Ineeduparty. At the top of the stretch, it’s Luttrell by about a length, with Ineeduparty now having to deal with Niagra Thunder, who is looking to go by on his inside. After a length and a half, Afro Cuban Jazz is alone in the fourth spot as Around The Table loses some ground. Behind them, of that five wide group, only the horse on the outside, Earthshine, is looking to make a move but you have to wonder if the wide trip will catch up to him. Meanwhile, Bells N Whistles, Star Skeleton, Foxy Devil, and Tyreek are all matching strides and running out of time. Pressurized is not handling the pressure well at the back.
(Finish- :55.99)- Luttrell looks to bring it home in the stretch, but Niagra Thunder is going to make him work for it as he inches closer with every stride, particularly in the final furlong. Luttrell is not backing down from this fight, and the two of them are destined for a close finish at the wire. Behind them, Afro Cuban Jazz also finds an additional gear and will look to take the win away from both of them in the final strides. At the wire, it’s very close between Luttrell and Niagra Thunder, but Luttrell will prevail in the nick of time. Afro Cuban Jazz was a half length behind them in third. For fourth, the late running Star Skeleton grabs the spot late over the faltering Ineedu2party, with Tyreek nearby in 6th. The second half of the field will read Foxy Devil, Earthshine, Bells N Whistles, Around The Table, and Pressurized.
About The Winner- Luttrell, trained by TwinTowersRacing and ridden to victory by J R Velazquez, is a four year old colt by Elixir and is out of Illicit Affair. He was bred in New York by TwinTowersRacing as a seocnd quarter two year old, and they have been together throughout. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his third in 19 starts, and first stake win. His career earnings are now $250.73.
