The Maid Of The Mist ($200.00 Purse)
BEL- For Fillies Two Years Old Foaled In NY
One Mile on the Dirt
October 24, 2026
Moving on, our next race to look at for NY-breds at BEL on Saturday will be the Maid Of The Mist, which sends two year old fillies a mile around the main track. The $200.00 purse is consistent with most of the day’s offerings, but historically the race did have a high point of $250.00. The 2025 edition was won by Zifi, for Mb Stables, a filly that has continued to find success and has now won over $1,100.00 in her career. Just last week, she won the Grade 2 Raven Run at KEE. That’s a great lead for our field of six to try and follow, let’s meet those hoping to do so now!
1- Dance Dance Dance (Mb Stables, ridden by D E Centeno)- Looking to pick up the trainer’s second win in a row in this race, and comes here off of a solid fourth place effort in the Grade 1 Alcibiades at KEE. Prior to that, she had showed her promise right before that with a runner up in the Sorority Stakes at MTH. With no one else in the field even getting near a graded race as of now, she’s certainly the one to beat here.
2- Lampley (Royalty Stables, ridden by K Carmouche)- Now, we look for a filly that can take down Dance Dance Dance. Lampley’s case to be that one hinges on her last start, which was highly impressive, winning here by four lengths to break her maiden last month. This is a great spot for her to run in following that strong effort, and we’ll need to be watching for this one in the stretch.
3- Material World (D J C Racing Stables, ridden by A Beschizza)- Has done what the trainer has asked of her thus far, winning two out of three. Her maiden win came at FL, and two months later she made a trip to LAD where she won a $17.00 allowance, though in a dead heat. SRF’s won’t impress on her, but there’s plenty of time for her to grow. She will have had to done that at least a bit to have a chance here.
4- Curly Hair Katherine (Night Rider Stables, ridden by M Franco)- In her second career start, she broke her maiden at AQU and would be promoted right into stakes races afterwards. Unfortunately, they have not gone well, running a distant ninth in the $75.00 Tah Dah at BTP, then not beating anyone last time in the $200.00 Seeking The Ante at SAR. I’m not feeling optimistic about her here.
5- Gilgo (D J C Racing Stables, ridden by S Elliott)- The Neon Wolf filly took a little while to break her maiden, but it would come last month right here in her fifth start. There was nothing wrong with her previous attempts, running at high level tracks and hitting the board on all but one occasion, so she’s certainly shown her promise. Hasn’t publicly worked a mile since August, but her time then was right in line with the rest of the field.
6- Torch Bearer (Nakamura Stables, ridden by F H Da Silva)- The veteran of the group, making her seventh career start. Like Gilgo, it took her five tries to break her maiden and when her day came it was at FL in July but she had to share the winner’s circle with another that day. Two months later, she’d run at the same track in the $100.00 Lady Finger, for NY-breds, and did finish in the middle of the field. Never seems to run a bad race, and I don’t see why this would be different.
Prediction: 1-2-5-6
