Mb May Be Shouting the Jokes On You After DED Princess

DED Princess – Grade III
DED   Race #3   1m   Dirt   Graded Stake
Purse $500.000  For Fillies Two Years Old.

1 Bubbly Bluebird, trained by Blushing Meadows
After a meaningless but slightly disappointing last of 8 on debut this daughter of Kavorka took a break and was given time to improve before trying in maiden company again. This time in a statebred maiden at SA she hacked up by two lengths over six furlongs and looked a classy filly in the making. A 1.37 and 2 mile work suggests she is up to this grade and an ideal draw will make her a decent chance.

2 Five Roses, trained by Aer Stables
This homebred filly has some good form even though a glance at her works suggest she would have something to find at this level. Two seconds and a win at overnight level saw her take her chance in the Adirondack where she was always prominent and ended up a creditable third. That run made her start favourite for the Matron last time out but though she ran on well she could not beat Sheeza Cracker and went down by a length for third. Her form looks pretty good but her work times over a mile have not reflected that and i worry that she may struggle with the mile here. A good draw will help though and you cannot fault her consistency.

3 Jokes On You, trained by Mb Stables
The first of the Mb runners, we get to see the second strings this weekend as all the big guns took part in the BC a couple of weeks ago. Like Bubbly Bluebird and 90% of the rest of HRP two year olds she was miserable on debut finishing eighth but a huge swing as is normal saw her win her maiden on her next start. And what a win it was, going over the mile she waltzed home by a hard held six lengths and looked all sorts of good. Since then she has recorded a 1.37 and 1 mile work time which puts her close to the top of these and who would be surprised to see the stable dominate all the big purses again.

4 Gift Of Laughter, trained by TwinTowersRacing
Took a while to break her maiden but was running in hot maiden company and built nicely to a very strong win at DMR. After that first win she was thrown in the deep end in the grade one Chandelier and ran a solid race to be third although to be fair she never looked like being any closer than the three lengths she got beaten by. She is a tough consistent filly with a good draw and a strong jockey so a top four finish looks likely.

5 Molly Magne, trained by Gdp Inc
She has been very gradually stepped up in trip and with each furlong she extends she has improved. She broke her maiden on the fourth attempt and then went on to an easy win over a small field in the Juvenile Filly Stallion Stakes. Her work times are pretty good and whilst its easy to look at her form and wonder of she is up to this grade she has done nothing wrong in her last two starts.

6 Fool Me One Time, trained by Mb Stables
As expected from a horse from her stable her works are strong but she has been a little inconsistent on the track. She won her maiden at the third attempt but ran pretty poorly in the Muskoka Stakes ending up last for no good reason. Her next start saw her tackle a route for the first time and she beat Sweeping Slew who ran pretty well for a long way in the BC in the grade three Mazarine BC Stakes, a much improved effort. Its hard to write her off but its also hard to get excited about her so i am very much on the fence about her chances.

7 Im Working On It, trained by Mb Stables
The obligatory third entry from the stable that can and so does and this is probably the most exciting of them. A winner of a turf sprint maiden on debut she then went to PLN to crucify a field of seven by four lengths running a solid time for the mile and seventy yards. Her last work time of 1.10 and 4 for six furlongs suggests she is much better than a PLN allowance and she could easily maintain her unbeaten record here and make it three in a row.

8 Starlite Run, trained by D J C Racing Stables
A solid and consistent little filly she steps out over the mile for the first time and she should once again give a good account of herself. She won her maiden by six lengths back in May and has since run a very close third in the Schuylerville and then just got caught when trying to make all from the wide gate in The Seeking The Ante. They were pretty good efforts but her last start was a funny sort of run in the Matron where she ended up fifth. She may well be ready for the step up in trip and her work times suggest she wont be far away.

9 Sports Creek, trained by Aer Stables
She was looking good running up three wins in a row but has since hiccupped a little and seems to have lost her way. We can forget her run from a wide draw in the muddy Frizette Stakes last time but she gets a wide draw again today and i fear she may be sacrificed for her stable mate. Her last work was a 1.37 flat one of the best mile works in the field so if she gets a fair crack from the draw she could be a bit of a dark horse.

10 Coldpack, trained by John Henry
Finds a horrible draw here which is a shame considering her work times of  1.10 and 3 for the six and a 1.37 and 1 for the 8 furlongs give her a very real chance. Her recent form however hasnt reflected those work times finishing eleventh in the Adirondack and tenth in the Jessamine so she will need to show something here to rekindle her trainers confidence in her.

SUMMARY
I would be liking Spirits Creek and Coldpack if they were drawn in but wide draws may ruin their chances. That really leaves 5 chances and 3 of those are from Mb Stables and to be honest you cant go far wrong picking a horse from that stable to win. I think Jokes On You who is rather aptly names may be the best of the three but Im Working On it isnt far behind. Of the others, well they look a pretty even bunch and as the class of the race they have done well in seems to mean very little it is hard to separate them.
