Another day, another stakes win for Mb Stables… yawn. My top choice in this one, Chances Taken sat back off of the early pace then made a steady move forward to win by a half length in a final time of 1:461 for the mile and an eighth distance. Joan Of Arc forced the pace throughout, took the lead into the lane but could not hold off the winner, taking the second spot while 31/1 shot Naughtygirlsneedlove ran a big race to be another neck back in third
The gate sat at the top of the stretch and they were off an running on the firm CD turf course with Shake The Stick and Naughtygirlsneedlove from the outside, Steinbrenner and Chances Taken from the middle of the field then Joan Of Arc along the rail and Dawning Dreadnought was the early trailer.
Under the wire the first time buy and now into the clubhouse turn with six and a half furlongs to run, Shake The Stick moved up four wide to hit the front. Naughtygirlsneedlove giving chase, Steinbrenner on her inside, then Joan Of Arc skimming the hedge. Chances Taken just in behind that one and Dawning Dreadnought was unhurried and continued to trail.
They made their way down the backside and were going into the far turn with three furlongs left to run, Shake The Stick still on the lead and three wide, Steinbrenner between horses, Joan Of Arc on the inside, Naughtygirlsneedlove on the outside, then a length to Chances taken and Dawning Dreadnought was still the back marker, five lengths covered the field.
Moving around the far turn and into the lane, they went past the three-sixteenth’s pole and it was bunching up quick… Joan Of Arc up to take the lead by a length, three across the track giving chase… Shake The Stick looking tired, Naughtygirlsneedlove down the middle of the track, Steinbrenner three wide, as Chances Taken cut the corner and had the inside run at them, and Dawning Dreadnought trying to find a late kick.
Inside the final 150-yards and to the finish… Chances Taken used that inside move and was now up to take the lead by a neck… Joan Of Arc battling on right next to that one and Naughtygirlsneedlove trying to find more down the outside… but as they hit the wire, Chances Taken was not to be denied and won by a half length. Joan Of Arc was game to the finish but settled for second, a neck in front of Naughtygirlsneedlove. It was another length back to Steinbrenner in fourth, Dawning Dreadnought in fifth and Shake The Stick tired to be sixth.
Chances Taken is a 3yo bay filly by Coin Flip – Revival, by Revolutionary, and she was bred in ON by Night Mare Racing. Mb Stables acquired her via Private Sale for $40.000, prior to her racing career. She now has two wins from five starts and earnings of $131.600, and I’m sure this is just the beginning for this talented filly.

Chances Taken broke in hand, raced mid-pack while unhurried, cut the corner into the lane, up inside the final sixteenth, won driving. Joan Of Arc never far back, took over into the lane, headed in the last sixteenth, game try. Naughtygirlsneedlove raced mid-pack, swung wide for the drive in a good effort. Steinbrenner tracked the leader to the lane, tried. Dawning Dreadnought was never involved. Shake The Stick broke alertly, rushed up to take the lead into the clubhouse turn, set the pace to the lane, tired.
