Mentioned Honorably Takes Home Flower Bowl

The Flower Bowl GI [BC]

For Fillies and Mares Three Years Old and Upward

One Mile and Quarter Inner Turf

Belmont Park

Purse: $600.000

Welcome back to Belmont Park where on Saturday the GI Flower Bowl took place with a trip to the BC on the line. We had a field of eight showed up for this as Tight Pockets was looking to make it back to back winner circle trips here in the Flower Bowl.

The winner of this years GI Flower Bowl was Mentioned Honorably. 4/1 on the board for this one was third in her last start in the GI Beverly D and was looking to score in this one. Away seventh of the eight starters at the sound of the bell and six lengths from the early leader Tiffany Warrior, as she held that position heading into the turn regular rider Julian Leparoux went to work and the filly picked it up as she ran past her competition today getting away to win by two. Winning in a time of 2:05.69 for the Mile and Quarter over the soft inner turf course for owner / breeder Mb Stable, who picks up first place prize money of $360.000.

2) Tiffany Warrior ~ 4/1 made her way into this one off a second in the GII Yellow Ribbon at DMR as she tried pulling off the wire to wire score, but came up short. She was hoping that was not the case today. Wasting no time when the doors flung opened hustling out to get a length advantage, as she remained a length of the others heading into the stretch James McAleney tried to get her home to score going wire to wire, but a late charge of Mentioned Honorably could not be stopped and the filly watched her go by leaving her second once again. The run for Tiffany Warrior gets owner and breeder Canadian Racing $144.000.

3) Skeleton Spy ~ 8/1 on the tote board and was the beaten favorite in her last start over a yielding turf course at GP. Looking to deliver a winning run this time out was away second at the break and just a length behind Tiffany Warrior, as she sat right behind her heading into the stretch Javier Castellano gave her a few taps of the stick, but the filly was not getting any closer as she went under the line third and two lengths behind the winner Mentioned Honorably. She went out for owner / breeder Chili King Stables who picks up $72.000 for the run.

4) Golden Broomstick ~ 3/1 and moving back to the sod after a third place finish last time out in the GIII CT Oaks was getting back Rafael Bejarano who had been riding her in the past. Out and away sixth at the break and five lengths behind, as she turned the corner she made up ground on the others, but not enough to grab a spot in the top three. She went out for owner / breeder Drabfantasy who picks up $24.000 for the run.

5) Risen Queen ~ 4/1 third in her last start in the GII Canadian where she just missed by three parts of a length was looking to bring that run here to Belmont Park. Away fifth when the doors opened and four lengths from the leader, as she hit the straightaway she stayed in mid pack and finished fifth in this one under Robbie Albarado. She went out for owner D J C Racing Stables.

6) Tight Pockets ~ *3/1 and the favorite for the GI Flower Bowl was looking to repeat her effort from last year. Jockey Alex Solis getting the call back on her and looking for the magic they had together last year just was not there this year. She was away third at the break and in good position just two lengths from Tiffany Warrior, as she hit the top of the lane Alex went to the stick, but there was no run from her as she went under the line finishing sixth for owner / breeder EasyMoney Stables.

7) Know How Causeway ~ 32/1 and another entry from Chili King Stables was heading into this one off a seventh place finish in the GII Canadian at Woodbine. Away fourth at the break and just two lengths from the leader, as she hit the top of the lane with Emma Jane Wilson she began to back up and went under the line to finish seventh.

8) Kayce ~ 25/1 a winner in her last one in the Fleet Indian was hoping to deliver once again for owner Oval Express Farms. Last of the eight at the break, as she hit the top of the stretch Freddie Pennington went to work but the filly did not fire leaving her eighth in this one.

This is Choppy I am OUT!
