Mini Coup King Of NM in Rio Grande Senor

Rio Grande Senor Futurity

$175.000 NM Bred Stake 5 1/2 Furlongs on Dirt for 2 Year Old Colts & Geldings

Five colts and geldings were entered in the NM bred stake on Labour Day Monday. Loading into the gate Sweeping Italy was the heavy favorite coming off a third in an open stake and a win in a NM bred stake before that and an impressive work tab and for much of the race looked ready to run away with it until Mini Coup was able to run him down in the stretch.

From the outside post Marathon Mandy was the quickest away taking a small lead over Sweeping Italy with Mini Coup a length off them, Work Unsuited another four lengths back and Handsome Fuego already over seven lengths off the leader who could never get anything going and would never improve his position and finish over eight lengths back in the end.

Around the far turn Marathon Mandy already began to fade and Sweeping Italy inherited the lead. Just as it looked like Sweeping Italy was running away with things Mini Coup was able to find another gear, swing wide and slowly make his move, running away to a half length victory.

Mini Coup finished the race in 1:04.00 for five and a half furlongs. Congratulations to her owners, End Run Farm and all the connections behind this two year old colt.
