Minnesota Heat from The Sidley Stud took three months off after a mid-pack finish in a graded stakes near the end of October, then returned with another mid-pack performance in a graded stakes on the last day of January. Now shows up sprinting in a restricted non-graded stakes at Charles Town on the second Saturday in May. When you open up the form you will see that “Heat” broke his maiden at first asking on this track, going the same distance and the trainer has had plenty of time to sharpen his speed since that last route. Whatever ability the three-year-old has should be on full display Saturday evening in a spot where he stands out class wise by a large margin. Timberfied from T Boy Racing looks for the hat trick here and has run the same race twice in a row on this surface and trip, albeit against first level allowance animals. The connections couldn’t have dreamed up an easier spot in a stakes race. Wild Bun from Zoeller is sharp as a tack and looks for his fourth straight victory party. “Bun” has won twice on this surface going long and will have no trouble handling the track. Drawn perfectly on the outside of a small field, he should get a perfect trip. The gelding has never been out of the trifecta.
Of The Rest:
Brandy Dial, also from The Sidley Stud appears to have possibly been entered to ensure that the race draws, however, with it coming up so light, “Dial” has a shot to do more than circle the oval. Obviously the lesser of the barns two entries, “Dial” ran a big race at Fonner Park in The Grasmick Stakes and if a repeat effort is possible, he could surprise at what should be a square price.
Smallest Man Ever from Rock Creek has only rung the bell once, going 5f at Fort Erie and was dull in his most recent. Looks to be a candidate to get overwhelmed in this spot.
