Misty Firefox Splashes Through Mud to Take The Bourbonette Oaks

The Bourbonette Oaks- Grade III

TP Race 6 1M Dirt

Purse $100.000 For Fillies

Three Years Old

1st Misty Firefox, trained by Crocker Ggs

Dropped back and moved over to save ground around the first turn. Raced at the back of the pack 8 lengths from the front as they moved down the backstretch. Started to swing out as they moved around the turn and continued to be pushed wider as she looked for a lane. Rallied strongly down the stretch and was able to prevail by a neck at the wire.

2nd Yesterbae, trained by Jive Inc.

Broke well and moved over to the rail in 3rd position as they went around the first turn. Gave up ground down the backstretch found herself in 9th position 7 lengths from the lead as they got to the far turn. Started her move right in front of Misty Firefox as they rounded the turn and was just inside that one as they entered the stretch. Battled gamely down to the wire but came up a neck short.

3rd Ghost Havoc, trained by Jive Inc.

Lost a lot of ground as she was caught wide around the first turn and dropped back to 7th. Rushed up as they came out of the turn and took over third going down the backstretch. Wore down the leaders as they moved around the turn and made her way to the front entering the stretch. Held well through the lane to finish a good third.

4th Cobra Commanding, trained by Aer Stables

Raced in the four path all the way around the track and while never a threat to win raced well to finish fourth.

Summary

The winner was able to dispel any concerns on her ability to get the distance as she rallied strongly for the win. Yesterbae may have been hindered by the extra two pounds but still ran very well and I am sure we will hear plenty from her this year. Ghost Havoc may have had the most impressive run of all as she was extremely wide on the first turn and had to be used early to get position. The rest of the trainers will have to decide if the muddy track was to blame for some underwhelming performances.
