More Twist Wins The Stephens

The Stephens – Grade 1 – $400.000

BEL – 7 Furlongs – Dirt

For Three Year Olds

June 10, 2023

The gates opened and the field broke together across the track. Indian Summer and Prince George went out for the early lead and quickly opened a length on the field.  By the time they traveled the first quarter in 22:49, Indian Summer had a length on the field and Dayton was up to challenge Prince George for second.

More Twist came out of the gate slowly and settled near the back of the pack where he stayed until he made a dramatic move from eighth to first in the final furlong.

Indian Summer still held the lead as the field rounded the turn for home. More Twist was 3 ½ lengths back with nowhere to run. Into the stretch, More Twist dropped in behind Loko Moko, and when a hole opened up between Loko Moko and Dayton, he shot through and took the lead in the shadow of the wire.

Complete Order of Finish:

1 More Twist (Mb Stables) Came from off the pack through traffic to win.

2 Loko Moko (South Shore Stables) Made a late move but had to settle for second.

3 Crack The Party (Maxmillion Farm) Hugged the rail all the way and got up for third.

4 Prince George (Mb Stables) Led briefly but couldn’t stay there.

5 Twin Rackets (Alydar Stables) Last most of the way, made a strong move but too little too late.

6 Indian Summer (Diablo Diablo) Led early, faded to sixth.

7 Mamba (Mb Stables) Even performance mid-pack, never really fired.

8 Peace Pipe (Arindel) Made up some ground, but never a factor.

9 Dayton (Pan Farms) Challenged briefly but faded to nineth.

10 Semi Auto (Threshold) Never a factor.

11 Mellow Magic (Riggins Racing) Never a factor

12 Centennal Hall (D J C Racing Stables) Never involved.

More Twist is by I Want More x El Gran Twist (El Gran Senor) and was bred in CAL by Team 7 Illusions. The gelding changed hands in April for $450.000. He won most of that back in this race. With four wins in nine career starts, his career earnings stand at $454.640. Congratulations to More Twist and Mb Stables!
