Mortality Bounces Back to Form in The Vagrancy Handicap

The Vagrancy Handicap – Grade III
6 1/2 Furlongs Dirt Stake Purse $200.000 Filly & Mare 4 Year Olds And Up.

1st   Mortality  John Henry  Bejarano R

Well it looks like the good Mortality turned up today as she won with a  fair bit in hand on the muddy track. She took up a nice early position from her wide draw which was probably the winning of the race for her and always looked to be going well. The ground didnt bother her but i dont think it was the difference today and lets hope she has turned a corner and we see this version of the classy filly for the rest of the year.

2nd   Kapai Kapow  Grimley    Castellano J J
The ground conditions certainly helped this one run a career best race to be second today. Stalking the lead she couldn’t match the winners finish but nonetheless ran a decent race. Lightly raced there should be more improvement in her.

3rd   Roxy Lisa  Canadian Racing  Velazquez J R
She has run well on a muddy track and beat home Mortality in the same conditions in the Vinery Madison last time. However as we all know HRP doesnt often follow form that well and  she was well beaten by Mortality today. She followed the winner for much of the race but couldn’t find a finish which has been a problem that has stopped her winning races in the past.

4th   Steel Calling  Mb Stables  Albarado R J
Kept on for fourth but didnt quicken through the mud as well as her jockey had hoped. Not a bad effort but she would have been better suited by a dry track.
