Motor City Gets Some Early Points in the Fight for the KYD Field

Lecomte Stakes – Grade III [KYD]
1 Mile 70 Yards Dirt Stake Purse $200.000 Open 3 Year Olds.

1st Motor City, trained by First Class Stable
The trip, the draw, the pace it all fell into place for Motor City today as he gamely took this KYD points race by a quarter length. Bought for just $30 pre race he has only been out of the first three once in his career and after two great efforts in grade two company he got his just rewards today and put himself in the early KYD picture.

2nd Broken Tap, trained by Barcelona Farms
Another ultra consistent type he was taking ground off the winner all the way home and stepped up nicely for this first black type effort out of statebred races. Another cheap one at only $12.50 he will have encouraged his trainer to try again at this level.

3rd Subutai, trained by Easy Money Stables
He was beaten further today than he was in the BC Juvenile which as usual makes reading two year old form against three year old performance almost impossible. Taken right back from the wide draw he flew home for third suggesting he will be one of the few suited by the KYD trip if he can get another chance at qualification.

4th Imperfect Warrior, trained by Joshua Stables
This was a remarkable run considering she was very close to the BC Juvenile third place finisher and beat home the BC Juvenile turf place getter. This was a good enough effort that her trainer may be tempted for another go at the boys but as she looks big enough to carry weight they may be better off going the KYO route.

SUMMARY
This form will flip flop atleast once before the KYD so it’s tough to read too much into it. Out of all of them I feel Subutai may be the one that makes the KYD field but everyone who got points today will be a live hope.
