Thors Echo Stakes ($100.000 Purse)
SA- For Three Year Olds and Upward Foaled In CA
Six Furlongs on the Dirt
June 12, 2021
Mr Charming had a productive career for prior trainer Jediminds Stable, but when Fractious claimed him for $50.000, he was clearly thinking bigger than success in overnights. In their first race together, Mr Charming was placed in the Thors Echo Stakes. His new acquisition would reward that vote of confidence by picking up the win in the race, confirming that we made the right decision in picking him in the preview! It is the first win in the Thors Echo Stakes for Fractious, and that is also true for jockey F Prat. The race was run in a time of 1:08.64, making it the second fastest edition of the race. Let’s take a look at it!
(¼ Mile- :22.51)- Cracked Plan jumps out to the early lead for Gdp Inc, and his lead is a length and a half as he runs an opening quarter without overdoing it. There are four of them lined up right behind him, and the eventual winner, Fractious’ Mr Charming, is one of them as he runs in the fourth lane. To his inside, we have Barbary Appeal (Axeman), and Daddys Operation (TwinTowersRacing) and Call Me Plume (Hippyheart) running in between them. Behind them, we also have horses lined up in orderly fashion, with Vamos (Team 7 Illusions) running to the inside of Absolute Immunity (Winning Link Stables) and Game Cent (Emerald Racing Inc). Running at the back, Apollo Mission (Allinthegate) and Grand Final (First Flight Stable) have a lot of work to do.
(½ Mile- :45.22, Top Of Stretch, 1.8F To Go)- At the top of the turn, Cracked Plan only seemed to extend his lead a bit, and as they started moving around it, Gdp Inc had to like that he saw since he really was not running an unreasonable pace. However, as they neared the stretch, challengers began to close in on him, with Mr Charming looking the strongest as that one held on to the fourth lane in a strong fashion. Barbary Appeal was also looking very good here, holding to the rail, and these two left Call Me Plume and Daddys Operation behind for the stretch run. The rest of the field had about four lengths to make up on the leader, and we would have to wait and see if one of them would emerge with a strong closing effort.
(Finish- 1:08.64)- Mr Charming was full of run once they reached the top of the stretch, and there would be no denying him. He did not have any difficulty completing the pass of Cracked Plan, but it was also impressive how he made Barbary Appeal also a non factor to him in the stretch. Mr Charming picks up a length win over the second place… Absolutely Immunity? Well, this one seemed to come out of no where as with three quarters of a furlong to go, he was still running seventh, but came bursting through in the dying moments to somehow get second in a photo over Barbary Appeal. Game Cent ends up fourth, but was never a threat to the top three. Cracked Plan was surprisingly poor in the stretch, dropping well out of it, and finishing fifth, ahead of Vamos, Call Me Plume, Apollo Mission, Grand Final, and Daddys Operation.
About The Winner- Mr Charming, trained by Fractious and ridden to victory by F Prat, is a five year old gelding by Charming Charley, and is out of the late Be The One. He was bred asa second quarter two year old by Jediminds Stable, and was acquired by Fractious via a $50.000 claim in his previous start. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his sixth in 22 starts, and his first stake win. His career earnings are now $270.920.
