Ms Pea Wires the Field in The Key Cents

The Key Cents- $100.000 Purse
AQU- For Fillies Two Years Old Foaled In NY
Six Furlongs on the Dirt
November 16, 2019

While all of her rivals were cutting back in distance, three of them having last run over a mile, Ms Pea was much more lightly raced and had not been pushed to run that long yet. While recent works have been longer, they were not as impressive as the six furlong bullet she put forth on October 10th. That race came about a week after she won a $40.000 maiden claimer at BEL. Trainer Aer Stables is certainly happy that no one claimer her that day as Ms Pea would be advanced into this ungraded stake, and after six furlongs, she would score the victory. It is the first win in the stake for both the trainer, Aer Stables, and the jockey, J Lezcano. Congratulations to them! The time of the win was 1:09.65, making it the second quickest edition of the race in its still young history. Let’s take a look at it!

(1/4 Mile- :23.10)- Our eventual winner, Ms Pea, wastes no time jumping out to the lead for Aer Stables. After the first two furlongs of the race, she has a length advantage over the second place Mb Stables entry of All Inclusive. It’s another length to Orient Point, from D J C Racing Stables, running in the third lane. Flying Swan remains on the rail for The Sidley Stud, and the trailer is Local Glitter, the other D J C Racing Stables entry. Four lengths separates first from last early on.

(½ Mile- :45.91, Top Of Stretch, 1.7F To Go)- The field completes the backstretch portion of the race without much excitement. The field is running a line, pretty much, at that point, and this carries over into the turn. Ms Pea is perfectly content with that as they approach the exit of the turn and enter the stretch. No one is making a move on her yet. All Inclusive still has that approximate length to make up, and Orient Point was not quite able to keep up. Flying Swan held her ground on the rail, but was not advancing. At the tail end of the field, Local Glitter was looking interested and did seem as though that at least she was going to make a bid. However doing so would require her making up a deficit of four and a half lengths.

(Finish- 1:09. 65)- With the lead, Ms Pea maintained a steady stride, and was not getting pressured from others who had been near her. All Inclusive was running the same pace as her on the rail, and neither Orient Point nor Flying Swan had an answer. However, Local Glitter was determined to make this interesting, and for a little while it seemed like it would just be an effort for second, until her bid got even stronger approaching the wire. Fortunately for Aer Stables, the wire came up just in time for his filly to prevail over the frantic bid of Local Glitter. All Inclusive takes third, over Orient Point and Flying Swan.

About The Winner- Ms Pea, trained by Aer Stables and ridden to victory by J Lezcano, is a two year old filly by King Rioja, and is out of the late Pea Rock. She was bred in New York by Aer Stables as a first quarter two year old, and is the only trainer she has ever known. Congratulations to the connections! The win is her second in three starts, and her first stake win. Her career earnings are now $77.580.
