The Skipat Stakes
$125.000 For Fillies And Mares Three Years Old And Upward
6 Furlongs – Dirt
Laurel Park – May 16, 2026
It seems like this racing season just started but we are already two thirds through the Triple Crown and the Breeders Cup is less than six months away. Time flies and so did the seven fillies that entered the starting gate for this year’s running of The Skipat Stakes at Laurel Park which provided a foster home for the race while Pimlico, its traditional home, is undergoing renovation. My Pretty certainly wasn’t missing Old Hilltop as she found the surroundings very much to her liking and flashed under the wire ahead of her six challengers.
Winner: My Pretty (Threshold/B. Curtis) Hard To Deny/My Precious (Scott The Great) Stalked in a group behind early pacesetter Win For Rene. Announced herself as the primary challenger to the leader around the far turn. Came up the rail in the stretch and caught the leader inside the sixteenth pole and was a half-length best of the closers at the wire.
Second: Call Me A Lady (Greyhound/Je Toledo) Call Me Lord/The Chassis (Commercial Grade) Broke with the field but was taken back to last in the early going. Was well back with a quarter of a mile to go but mounted a strong rally in the stretch. Found a hole between horses and was closing fastest of all but just ran out of ground.
Third: That Life (Our Athletes/F. Geroux) Our Dark Knight/Childish (Man Childe) Was in the stalking pack along with the winner early but found herself at a disadvantage being at least four wide around the turn. Found some late foot to nip the early leader for the third spot.
Fourth: Win For Rene (Avenue Z/M. Franco) Creepy Rene/Win For Red (El Jorobao Q) Went to the lead early and opened up through fast fractions which ultimately took their toll in the last sixteenth of a mile yielding to the top three very late.
Preview Pick: My Pretty – winner.
This was the first Skipat win for both Threshold and B.Curtis. The victory was the first for My Pretty this season and third stakes win in her career. She adds the Skipat to previous stakes scores in the G2 Blood Handicap and The Dream Supreme. Career earnings for the six-year-old gray mare now stand at an impressive $711.69.
