Na Pali Looking For Redemption in The Edgewood

The Edgewood – GIII

CD Race 3 1 1/16M – Turf

Three Year Olds Fillies

A field of nine three year old filly turf routers has been entered up for this years grade three Edgewood over the Churchill Downs turf course. It is a nice field and last years Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf winner Na Pali is in the field. It is a nice bunch of runners so let’s take a look at the field.

1. 46 And Two (5-2-0-3 $70.930), trained by Fractious

The first runner in the field right here is coming into this race off of a third place finish in the grade three Providencia Stakes at Santa Anita. That was her first real step up in class and she ran good that day and she should have improved off of that start. I think she could maybe run a big one in here.

2. Easier Said (7-3-2-1 $280.080), trained by Mb Stables

Well here is the filly who defeated Na Pali in her last when they ran together. She liked the off track last out in the grade two Appalachian at Keeneland and that was a huge race for her. With rain. In the forecast she should be tough and will likely be the horse to beat.

3. Na Pali (7-5-1-0 $926.400), trained by Smokey Stover

Last years Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf winner and one of the favorites for this race if it winds up as a firm track for sure. She ran terrible in the grade two Appalachian last time but that was just because of the off track I think. If it is dry she is the horse to beat but if it rains she likely won’t even run.

4. Good For Nowt (11-2-2-1 $158.210), trained by Diablo Diablo

The next filly is coming into this race off of a win in the grade three Providencia Stakes at Santa Anita in which she went wire to wire that day. She used some early speed to grab the lead that and she never looked back and held on to win by half a length. If she uses those same tactics a soft early pace will help her out a lot.

5. Pivotal Cherokee (5-3-0-0 $117.200), trained by Mo Mentum Farm

And the next filly we come across right here is coming into this spot off of a win in the Sanibel Island Stakes at Gulfstream Park over an off track. She went wire to wire that day and was opening up on them mate in the race. She likes the wet track and with rain in the forecast that helps her out.

6. Proud Eights (5-2-0-1 $88.200), trained by Estero Farms

Now to this filly who is coming into this race off of a third place finish in the grade three Herecomesthebride Stakes at Gulfstream Park about two months ago. She ran a good race that day and not beaten too badly. She likes to close from far back so a quick pace will help her out.

7. Made It Through (9-3-2-1 $158.500), trained by Mb Stables

The second runner from Mb Stables right here and she is also one who won going wire to wire in her last start. She ran the same day as the Sanibel Island Stakes which Pivotal Cherokee won at Gulfstream on an off track. She likes the off track and if she uses the same tactics she will need to slow it down to help her out.

8. Cest And Me (9-3-0-1 $214.400), trained by D J C Racing Stables

The first of two from D J C Racing Stables right here and this filly is entering this race off of a fifth place run in the grade two Appalachian. She was the leader most of the way the day and got passed late. If she sits a little bit off of it in this one she will have a better chance.

9. Flying Nun (8-3-0-1 $88.980), trained by D J C Racing Stables

And now to the final runner in the field right here and second from D J C Racing Stables is a recent allowance winner at Fair Grounds going five furlongs. She has mainly been sprinting on the turf but is taking a shot around two turns in here. She has a lot of early speed and should be near the pace early on.

Summary

A nice field has been gathered up for this race no doubt and there is some very quality fillies in here for sure. My top pick is Na Pali but only if it is a dry track. If it is wet she probably won’t run and if she does I don’t think she will be much of a factor. Blazing By is my top choice if it’s an off track. Good luck to all in the field.
