Napa Flies Home To Take Woodstock Stakes

5/1/2022

  4  WO     Woodstock Stakes

$125.000    3YO    6f  Dirt    122lbs +penalties

In a time when “speed is king” Mo Mentum Farm has found the hole-card for Napa and it’s sit back, let em go and reel em in when the money is on the line.  As he did last out, the chestnut colt sat chilly through the early parts of Sunday’s Woodstock Stakes, at WO, then he fanned out widest of all for the run down the lane and passed them like a motorcycle, getting home clear by a length for the victory.  The Pelican Brief, sent off as the slight favorite, edge out his stable mate Red Ranger, for the second spot, then it was a neck back to Happy Saver in fourth.

Napa is a 3yo chestnut cold by Served Up – Ascendancy, by Honorable Command, and he was bred in ON by his owner, Mo Mentum Farm.  This was his fourth win from eight starts, his third win of the season, first stakes score, and he now has lifetime earnings of $123.290.  Congrats to the connections!

Napa off a step slow, trailed into the lane, fanned widest of all for the drive, closed quickly to engage the leader with 150-yards remaining, pulled away in the last few strides.  The Pelican Brief stalked the pace from the rail, cut the corner, took the second spot late in a good effort.  Red Ranger tracked the pace 2p, moved to the 3p for the drive, just missed the place.  Happy Saver set the pace to the final 150-yards, outkicked.  Junkyard Dog was not a factor.
