Naples is Just Too Good in The Alabama

The Alabama – Grade I
1 1/4 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $600.000 Filly 3 Year Olds.

1st        Naples          Arindel         Garcia Mar

I am not sure how this filly didn’t start odd on favorite but thank goodness the odds maker was as inaccurate as usual as she won like she was, the best filly in the race by far. Getting back a little i was worried for a couple of furlongs but when she started to make her move the writing was on the wall. In the end she came home a length clear and proved she is the best three year old filly in the game at the moment. She will go on to the BC now as the best hope for the younger generation and it will take a good older one to beat her.
This win takes her earning past the $2K barrier and gave her her third grade one of the year making her favorite for filly of the year too.

The owner will be breathing a sigh of relief after this race because whilst she never looked likely to beat the winner she did run well enough to fully justify the big price they paid for her back in April. This was only her sixth start so there is clearly much more to come from her. She came from a long way back to share this second spot and once again she left me with that feeling that of her owner can find some way to get early pace into her she could well turn into a serious filly.

=2nd           Secret Eyes          Arindel        Baird E T

Ran an absolute cracker from a terrible draw to share second and this was definitely the best of this filly today. The former grade one winner is very good on her day and this was her best effort at this level since that great two year old victory.

4th          Intolerable        Mb Stables        Moran D

How this filly started favorite over Naples i will never know but she ran just about to form finishing the same distance behind the winner as she did in the CCA Oaks last time. She has proven a little one paced against the top level and she again found it tough to quicken up when required today.
