1 World Of Wonder, trained by Team 7 Illusions

She took four goes as a two year old to break maidens but she improved with every race and won her maiden by clear air. Put away she was brought out early in the year and had a crack at some black type in the Santa Ynez Stakes where she dead heated for third and ran a highly creditable race. After that effort she looked a good chance in the ungraded Lacombe Memorial but disliked the switch to turf and faded to a poor ninth. I think you have to forget that effort on turf and she did much better when back on dirt last time when a staying on fourth in the Star Shoots. I think this trip suits and she is better than a single race winner so I think her trainer can expect a good run.

2 Weirdo, trained by Mo Mentum Farm

Won three from four before her last race effort in the Fury Stakes but they were all at low level and she may struggle again in her second attempt at black type. She has worked OK and clearly has ability so you cannot write her off completely but this would represent a surprise if she could win.

3 Smile Niki Smile, trained by Whitewater Stables

Lightly raced as a two year old she showed plenty of ability in winning the Nadi Stakes and finishing a fairly close sixth in the Matron. She was given plenty of time off and didn’t come back until March when she looked in need of the race when a closing third in the Cicada. Her works are pretty strong and she has some handy form so as long as she is fully tuned up for this race I can see her as one of the main threats.

4 Queen Of The Night, trained by Sizing Europe Lodge

One of those that does well in overnights but fails in black type class. She won twice as a two year old and twice now as a three year old but each time she has been tested she has failed miserably. Her last failure at higher level came in the Santa Ysabel Stakes where she ran a little to be a staying on sixth but the way she ran that race suggested she needs a trip rather than this sharp seven furlongs. This however is HRP and she won a competitive six furlong sprint last time suggesting quite the opposite. This isn’t a strong field and this may be her opportunity to put those poor black type efforts behind her and finally break through.

5 Mourn, trained by Team 7 Illusions

Even for a daughter of Charley Farley this may be a huge upset if she can manage to pull off the nigh impossible. With only one run to her name and that was in a free track maiden seven months ago where she was beaten seven lengths into fourth it looks safe to write her off for this race. However this is HRP and dare I say it stranger things have happened. Her works are pretty good but I will eat my computer keyboard if she wins this race but don’t be surprised to see her beating one or two home.

SUMMARY

Well these state bred stakes race can be easy or hard to win and this one falls into the first category. Having said that there are a couple with chances and I think the finish will be between Smile Niki Smile and Queen Of The Night.
