Pilgrim winner Quiet Return takes on Bourbon winner Munich and Summer Stakes winner Applauding The Sin, but while these might be the stars of the show, they are not the only contenders. Cheyenne Lame Foot won the $500.000 KD Juvenile and was second in the Bourbon behind Munich. Ocala Secret won the OT Juvenile Turf and could show speed in this race. In fact, this field is packed with stakes and graded stakes winners.
Here’s the field:
Long Awaited Friend (Axeman) Still a maiden, but this gelding has never finished worse than third, including a second in the OT Juvenile Turf (Grade 3) and the Zuma Beach Stakes (Grade 3). A very nice two-year-old, but this might be too big a step for him right now.
Quiet Return (Allinthegate) Back-to-back wins for this gelding. Won the Pilgrim (Grade 2) last out which earned him a place in the gate here. Like his chances if he gets a good trip.
Munich (Mo Mentum Farm) This gelding punched his ticket to the BC in the Bourbon (Grade 2) which he won last out. Before that he finished third in the Iroquois (Grade 2). Would like him better if he were a little more consistent, but he has a real chance here.
Cheyenne Lame Foot (Kopites) Second in the Bourbon (Grade 2), first in the $500.000 KD Juvenile. Likes to come from off the pace, so he’s another one who needs a good trip. Credentials aren’t quite as strong as some, but he seems to be in good form.
Ocala Secret (Barcelona Farms) OT Juvenile Turf (Grade 3) winner. Has never been worse than second in four starts. Could be the speed in this field and just might be there at the wire.
American Grandeur (TwinTowersRacing) Just a maiden win for this one, but he did finish third in the Pilgrim (Grade 2) last start and third in the $500.000 KD Juvenile. May be a little outclassed in this field.
Pink Shart (Arindel) Won the $500.000 Nownownow last out to break his maiden. Has never competed in graded company. Another one that might need more experience to compete with these.
Suave (Mb Stables) Just a maiden win for this one. Second in the Pilgrim (Grade 2) last out. Probably won’t be close to the lead early, but might be there at the wire. Will take a strong effort though.
Kentucky Pharoah (Arindel) Won the With Anticipation (Grade 3) in August and made it look easy, then finished 8th in the Bourbon (Grade 2) last start. If he can run back to his form in the With Anticipation, he could be in the mix.
Sweet And Innocent (Mb Stables) Another one with just a maiden win. Has finished behind several in this field in the Bourbon, Nownownow and the With Anticipation. Will he get his revenge here or be a runner up again?
Applauding The Sin (Arindel) Won the Summer Stakes (Grade 1) and earned a chance here. This one looks like the real deal. Should have a say in the outcome.
Galaxy Star (Hippyheart) Three starts, two wins for this colt. Won the Zuma Beach (Grade 3) last start after breaking his maiden in CAL-bred company by three lengths in wire-to-wire style. Strong competitor.
Leaderfromhell (TwinTowersRacing) Third in the Summer Stakes (Grade 1) last out. Likes to run on the lead, so may challenge for the early lead. Needs a top effort to get a piece of this purse.
Duke Of Satire (Nakamura Stables) Second in the Summer Stakes (Grade 1), then couldn’t hit the board in the Bourbon (Grade 2). Looks a little outclassed here.
