No Clear Favorite in Sorrento Stakes

Sorrento Stakes – Grade 3 – $200.000

DMR – 6 Furlongs – Dirt

For Fillies Two Years Old

August 12, 2023

1 Soho Rose (Allinthegate)

Broke her maiden last out at SA. Solid works. Will need to step it up a bit to compete here.

2 Apache Jenn (Bayou Star Farm)

This is awkward. Apache Jenn is mine. She’s done everything she’s been asked to do so far, including winning the TTA Sales Futurity – Fillies last out. But this is her first race outside of state-restricted company which is a question mark. Look for her on or near the pace and she just might still be there at the wire.

3 I Made A Decision (Jireh)

Claimed for $40.000 in June, this filly rewarded her new connections with a second-place finish in the Grade 3 Schuylerville, a performance that earns her a serious look in this race. Another one that likes the view from the front and could hold on to the wire.

4 Beholder (Fractious)

Broke her maiden two back at CD but did not fare well in her first attempt at graded level, finishing up the track in the My Dear last out. Will need a strong effort to win here.

5 Realizzare (Fractious)

Another one that failed to hit the board in her first attempt at stakes level. Broke her maiden at first asking at GP in her only other start. Will need a good trip and some racing luck.

6 Silver Springs (South Shore Stables)

Won the FT Debutante two back but couldn’t hit the board in the Grade 3 Schuylerville. Should like this spot better.

7 Wexler (Aarons Hosses)

Broke her maiden at first asking at GG in state-bred company. Her only other start resulted in a fourth-place finish in the FT Debutante. Needs to step it up to compete here.

8 No More Shots (Jive Inc)

Took four tries to break her maiden which she did last out at WO. Even so, she has never finished off the board in four starts. Works are competitive. Could get a piece of the purse.

9 Shes Beachy (La Canada Racehorses)

Only one start for this filly and it was a winning one. Broke her maiden at LS in her last and only start. Lack of experience may work against this one.

10 End Of The Devil (Maxmillion Farm)

Broke her maiden last out in wire-to-wire style. Never worse than third in three starts. Works look solid. Needs to bring her A-game to compete here.

11 Barbara (Big Jd Racing)

Another one with only one start. Took the field wire-to-wire in a MSW at PRX in April. Could be hurt by the long layoff. Look for her on or close to the lead.

12 Runhappy Hound (Jive Inc)

Broke her maiden at ELP last out. Another one that could contest the early lead, but the question is can she still be there at the wire?
