The Mr. Prospector-G3 will be run for the 18th time on Saturday at GP. The seven furlong dirt sprint is for 3yos+ and carries a purse of $100.000. Only two trainers have been able to claim victory twice in this race as Alydar Stables (2012, 2013) and Dynark Stables (2009, 2011) lead the HRP-community while jockey E.S. Prado (2005, 2006, 2007, 2014) has taken the top prize on four occasions. Here is the field for The Mr. Prospector-G3:
#1 Serious Havoc (Angelos Stable/C. Sutherland 123): Rail horse has fallen into the habit of dropping far back before unleashing a run. Taken three cracks at the graded level this season and has come up empty each time. Expecting more of the same.
#2 Dirty Cruz (Nakamura Stables/H.I. Berrios 123): Up the track vs ON-breds in his latest and needs to get back to his form from earlier in the season. Has a bit more speed than the horse to his inside, but hard to see him winning this.
#3 Shaky Sight (Gdp Inc/El Gonzalez 123): From these inside draws, he’s shown a ton of early foot and he should clear the two horses to his inside with ease. He’s been knocking on this door for awhile and his current run of form says he is one of the ones to beat.
#4 Winchester (Fractious/J. Bravo 123): BC Sprint-runner has been really good since cutting-back to one turn races. Think he’s better-suited for the seven furlong trip as opposed to the six that he’s run in his last two. Anything close to his best makes him a major player.
#5 First Down Dash (John Henry/C.J. Lanerie 123): Consistent, hard-knocking type just keeps earning his way back to these spots. PRX win last out came in really good time and if he can keep that pace going the extra 200 yards he faces here, he could be tough. Minor prize most likely.
#6 Resident Fox (Fractious/R.J. Albarado 120): Lone 3yo in the field has taken four cracks at hraded foes this season and has yet to cross the wire first. Form has tailed-off since earlier in the year and appears to need a career-best effort to trouble the top tier here.
#7 Relate (D J C Racing Stables/E.J. Zayas 123): Graded foes have been a bit too tough this season, but he hasn’t embarrassed himself either. Cuts-back to seven firlongs here off of a win and could see him working-out a good trip from this post. May not get all of the money, but he’ll take some of it home.
#8 Audioslave (Alydar Stables/J.R. Leparoux 123): Making the 11th start in his 6yo season, he’s been tough in the ungraded ranks and almost caught them all out at SA in a G2. Last effort was a step back, but he may rebound in a big way here. Would like to see him a tad closer if possible, but expect him to fire regardless. The choice.
#9 Di Terra (The Sidley Stud/C.A. Torres 123): Recent ALW winner has made a good deal of cash leading-up to his second graded try in a soon-to-be 38 start career. Seven furlongs doesn’t appear to be his best distance, but the way the race appears on paper, he may get first run from the back. Going to need a bit of luck to get by them all.
Final Analysis: 8-3-4 in a competitive renewal of The Mr. Prospector-G3 at GP. Good luck to all of the connections involved.
