No Surprises in Captiva Island

Captiva Island
5 Furlongs Turf Stake Purse $100.000 Filly & Mare 4 Year Olds And Up.

1st Antare s Smokey Stover Lopez P

Well, there wasn’t much of a surprise about this first four, the class of the race won the race, on speed dominated and the top four were owned by probably the top four owners. But though it was no real race to speak of you can’t knock this mare’s victory. She was after all a grade two winner dropping to ungraded stakes and despite a defeat over the same course and distance in the same race time, she has now won two of her last three and you would think the trainer will be looking for something a little more significant next time.

2nd A Lot To Say Mb Stables Velazquez J R

She may not have had the form of the winner, but she was working strongly and is on the upgrade, so it was no surprise to see her secure second. She got a little outpaced on the bend so may be a touch better over the six furlongs especially as she matures.

3rd Hint Of Cinnamon Arindel Saez L

A decent enough effort to get third pipping my trifecta in the process. She is a real consistent mare, perhaps no super star but at this level she will always be in there fighting.

4th Falling Cougar Smokey Stover Wilson E J

My hopes of the trifecta were dashed when she went back in a leader dominated race. Running on well enough to grab fourth this was just a fair effort from a consistent mare.
