Despite looking like one of the better horses in the field, Not Trippin Now was not given much of a chance by the betting public, and went off at odds of 30/1. He didn’t surprise us though, as he was made one of our picks, and if you boxed our top three picks, you would have had that large trifecta. It is the second straight win for this six year old gelding, a horse that began this year breaking his maiden in free race in his seventh start. Patience certainly has paid off for Gdp Inc, and Not Trippin Now is indeed now a graded winner. It is the first win in the stake for both Gdp Inc and jockey G Saez. Congratulations to them! The time of the win was 1:21.13, equalling the second fastest in race history. Here’s a look at it!
(¼ Mile- :23.05)- Seven Oaks shoots out to the lead for Royalty Stables, and opens up by a length and a half. His closest pursuer would be our eventual race winner, Not Trippin Now, for Gdp Inc. He runs in the third lane, and leads Our Athletes’ Tallmadge Star by half a length as that one runs near the rail. Expert Eye runs fourth, and between them for TwinTowersRacing, a length ahead of Twilight Flame (Mb Stables) and Sweet Sweet Sweet (Night Rider Stables). One more length to On The Turning Away (Gdp Inc), and another to John Deere (T Boy Racing) and Iron Return (Alydar Stables) as those two run side by side. Kapa Gold (John Henry) and Reach For A Latte (Fractious) are the trailers.
(½ Mile- :45.93)- Down the backstretch, Seven Oaks leads the way, but as they enter the turn, Not Trippin Now is getting ready to make his move, pulling up to the outside, about three quarters of a length behind. No one else is advancing on the pace setter, however, and it becomes very tight for the third position at this point. It is a four wide group there now, with Tallmadge Star on the rail, then Twilight Flame, Expert Eye, and Sweet Sweet Sweet. Behind them, it is close as well as Iron Return, John Deere and On The Turning Away are within a length of them. There’s a little more distance to Kapa Gold and Reach For A Latte.
(Top Of Stretch, 1.8F To Go)- Midway into the turn, Not Trippin Now pulls even with Seven Oaks, and simply powers by him quickly before even hitting the top of the stretch. Once there, he opened up a length on the field, with Seven Oaks now running in the second position. Tallmadge Star is running third, but has quite a bit of work to do in order to catch Not Trippin Now, with a length and a half to make up on a horse that is running quite well. Twilight Flame and Sweet Sweet Sweet have the next two positions, but neither look to be making a push for the lead any time soon. Expert Eye, On The Turning Away and others had even more distance to make up, but also did not seem as though they were about to make a push.
(Finish- 1:21.13)- The length lead that Not Trippin Now was able to create on exit of the turn would prove to be very beneficial in the stretch. He looks good early on, but with less than a furlong to go, Tallmadge Star, and the hard charging On The Turning Way start to close in quickly. However, for those challengers, there would not be enough time, and Not Trippin Now secures the victory! A photo for second sees Tallmadge Star being a head in front of On The Turning Away. Sweet Sweet Sweet runs steady to the wire to be fourth, a length and a half over a cluster of horses. Twilight Eye, Expert Eye, Iron Return, Seven Oaks, and Kapa Gold finish in close proximity, ahead of John Deere and Reach For A Latte.
About the Winner- Not Trippin Now, trained by Gdp Inc, and ridden to victory by G Saez, is a six year old gelding by the late Not Laffin Now, and is out of Pink Moon Echo. He was bred in the great breeding state of Pennsylvania as a first quarter two year old by Gdp Inc, the only trainer for which he has ever known. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his third in ten starts, his second stake win, and first graded win. His career earnings are now $344.150.
