Obeah Mon Gets Northern Dancer BC Turf in Last Stride

Northern Dancer BC Turf – Grade I
1 1/2 Mile Turf Stake Purse $300.000 Open 3 Year Olds And Up.

1st Obeah Mon Night Rider Stables Zayas E J

When you look at this ones form on turf you have to wonder why he has run 11 races on the dirt but to be honest it doesn’t seem to matter to most of the horses here whether they are on grass or dirt so i will forgive the trainer this little oversight. Trailing a decent pace he flew home to win by a nose in a thrilling finish and i rather think his next race will again be on the turf, having said that he recorded a 100 speed rating when third in the Woodward last time so that is not a given.
There is another good win in this one before he turns four and things get harder but i think he is the type that may train on as he is certainly improving at the right time.

2nd Fuji Smokey Stover Bisono J

Changed his running style with the click of a button and a wide gate speed push and it very nearly came off as he only got collared in the shadows of the post. It would have been a remarkable win had he held on in his first ever attempt at front running but unfortunately for him the records will show he was second even if it was by the shortest margin.

3rd Stormbringer John Henry Franco G

Made it a three year old clean sweep coming late for third but well behind the first two. This was a good effort after having things against him in his last two runs and i think this is much nearer his true form.

4th Jump Shot Mb Stables Lezcano J

Ran a loose stalk but the pace was very good and he was found wanting when asked for a turn of foot.

I rarely write about a fifth place finisher unless it is the BC or a TC race but today’s fifth place finisher was the great Techfluence who ran his last race today. This amazing seven year old has won 15 races in a huge career for a breathtaking $3851. With a third and two fourths in the BC Turf and a second in the Marathon before that he must be the best horse to never have won a BC race. He has won five grade three’s, five grade two’s and two grade ones in a career that started in 2015 with a sixth in a cheap RUI maiden. His first public work in March 2015 saw him just break 1.01 for five furlongs but since then he has been one of the most consistently fast working and best turf distance horses around.
We wish him the best of luck at stud and hope we see his sons and daughters following in his illustrious hoof prints.
