Only Five for The South Ocean Stakes

Two Year Olds Fillies ON Breds

A field of only five two year old Ontario bred fillies have been entered up to run in this years running of the South Ocean Stakes over the Woodbine surface. Mb Stables has two entered up in the race and he is always tough in Ontario bred races. Let’s take a look at the field.

1. Loch Awe (8-1-3-1 $77.320), trained by The Sidley Stud

The first filly in the field ran right here at Woodbine against Ontario breds in her last start and ran a very good second in the Princess Elizabeth to a very good filly. She liked the distance that day and I think she will be very tough in this spot.

2. Up Ended (3-1-0-1 $46.600), trained by Team 7 Illusions

This next filly in the field is making her first ever stakes start and also be first start around two turns. She ran seven furlongs in her last start against non two winners company against Ontario breds. She will have to take a step up to have a shot in here.

3. Unsuspecting (2-1-0-0 $33.430), trained by Mb Stables

First of two for Mb Stables in this field and this filly broke her maiden in her last start going seven furlongs over the Woodbine surface against state breds. She ran well in there but will have to stretch out for the first time ever here. She needs to run a big race to win.

4. Early Mornings (3-1-1-0 $86.280), trained by Mb Stables

The second runner in the field for Mb Stables right here and this filly is a graded stakes placed runner in her short career but she has only ran on the turf. She has some pretty good works on the dirt though and I think she will be tough to beat in here.

5. Peace Freak (2-2-0-0 $33.900), trained by YME Stable

Now to the final filly in this field and she is the only undefeated runner in this race. She has been perfect so far including a win in an Ontario bred allowance race in her last start. She was very good around two turns so if she doesn’t go too wide from this post she will be tough.

Summary

Even though it is only a field of five it is a pretty good group of fillies. I can definitely see just about any of them winning for sure. I’m going to go with the graded stakes place filly on top because I think she is overall the best runner in here. Good luck to all in the field.
