The Pines Stakes – GIII

DMR Race 6 1M – Dirt

Three Year Olds Fillies
Well only a field of four has been entered up to contest this years running of the grade three Pines Stakes here at Del Mar. It is a small field so it will probably be the best horse winning since there isn’t much room for traffic trouble and things like that. Let’s take a look.
1. Pennies (9-1-5-1 $92.420), trained by Arindel
The first filly in the field right here is coming into this race off of a third place finish in a New York bred allowance race at Saratoga on the turf. Before that she was fourth in the grade three Delaware Oaks. She has a chance in here if she can improve off of her last start.
2. Techno Cheryl (13-4-0-3 $237.340), trained by The Sidley Stud
The most experienced filly in the field right here just ran third in an optional claimer at Saratoga in her last start. She was second in two grade three races up at Woodbine before that though so if she could run one of those races in here she could have a good shot at winning.
3. Speedy Ginger (11-6-1-2 $135.430), trained by The Sidley Stud
The next filly here is the one that has won the most races as she has been cleaning up at the allowance level so far. This is a big jump up in class though and she will have to run her best race yet. Maybe she is heading in the right direction at the right time though.
4. Mayenne (8-4-3-1 $259.090), trained by On The Map Racing
And now the final filly in the field and my top pick here as she is entering this race off of a win in the Bison City Stakes at Woodbine. She has been killing it against Ontario breds but I think that form will translate well to this race. She is my top choice.
Summary
It is a small field that we have here but I do think that the race is at least evenly matched for the most part. The outside filly does look like the favorite in here to me at least and she is my top choice. Good luck to that are in the field.
