The Empire Distaff- $250.000 Purse
AQU- For Fillies and Mares Three Years Old and Upward Foaled In NY
One Mile on the Dirt
October 19, 2019
It was a race that did not have a clear favorite. The choice of the betting public, Fraudulent Actions still went off at 4/1. After her, there were several ranging between six and eight to one. The race was wide open, making it hard to pick winners. Out And Bad, one of the fillies within the group. was a horse we spoke well about, but did not get included in our picks mainly due to the wide open nature of the race. It is race that trainer Night Rider Stables can be proud of, because his filly followed up a win in the RP Oaks and this good looking win, so there may be more to come. It is the first win in the stake for the trainer. Aboard the winner was Night Rider’s favorite jockey, Ro Maragh, and it is also his first win in the race. The time of the win was 1:34.83, a time that cannot be compared to past editions due to the conditions and race location being different. Let’s take a look at this race!
(1/4 Mile- :23.23)- Mistique would break well out of the gate, and the Chili King Stables filly would be our early leader, but not without company. Starting right beside her, our pick to win, Arindel’s Pennies also was a quick starter, and was within half a length. Also, from her outside post, Immookalee, from Team 7 Illusions, was strong early and right with them. Nearby to them was Dawn The Destroyer, from Mb Stables. In the fifth position, and staying close to the front back was our eventual winner, Out And Bad, for Night Rider Stables. Ro Maragh had the filly positioned in the second lane, which for the moment was a nice clear lane between Mistique and the other front runners. Within the pack were two from Nakamura Stables, Fraudulent Actions and Obvious Deception. On The Flop, from Team 7 Illusions, was next, with four and a half lengths to make up. Trailing were Hollywood Sister (Estero Farms), Fire Island Sunshine (D J C Racing Stables), and Huzza (John Henry).
(½ Mile- :46.59)- Running down the backstretch, Mistique and Pennies would lead the way, with the two of them just heads apart as they approached the turn. Immookalee was keeping pace with them, as well. When we reached the top of the turn, Out And Bad looked to make her move and come up between the two leaders. This seemed to have been her intentions all along, and while for a moment it looked like the gap was closing up, it presented itself quite well now in the turn once again. Dawn The Destroyer stayed with the group, but had not yet made a push. A little further back, On The Flop was advancing a bit, cutting a length off her deficit to the front. Fraudulent Actions had not made a move yet, but had plenty of room to do so on the rail. Others had not shown much to this point.
(Top Of Stretch, 1.7F To Go)- Moving around the turn, Out And Bad responded well to the urging of Ro Maragh, and pounced on the lane that was still there for her. This seemed to scare Mistique, because once Out And Bad pulled up to her outside, Mistique packed it in for the day. Pennies, however, showed more of a fight and was still within a length. Immookalee continued with her outside trip of running with the leaders, but never pushing for more. Dawn The Destroyer was backing out, but on the outside, On The Flop continued to push forward and was looking like she could be a threat for the win. Fraudulent Actions had all the room on the rail disappear because Mistique was now seemingly running in reverse, making her have to move down. Hollywood Sister and Obvious Deception were exploring their options for the stretch, and Fire Island Sunshine had room to the outside. Huzza was looking flat at this point.
(Finish- 1:34.83)- Once in the lead, there was no looking back for Out And Bad who puts away the field with relative ease. There was no one better in the stretch, except perhaps in the very closing moments when On The Flop cut into the winning margin. On The Flop ran well, too, and did so with a more outside trip. She’d be a solid second over Fraudulent Actions, a horse that looked like it just needed a little more distance then this. Pennies hung on for fourth, over Immookalee. Rounding out the order, its Hollywood Sister, Fire Island Sunshine, Obvious Deception, Dawn The Destroyer, Huzza, and Mistique.

The win is her sixth in 14 starts, and her fourth stake win. Her career earnings are now $521.900.
