PIM Special is Feature Affair on Friday’s Card

This ten panel event has attracted a group of nine runners, all looking to take home some kind of purse in this $300.000 affair. Looking at the field, it looks like Burning Approval should have a slight edge, but Gunpowder Choice will make it interesting.

  • The PIM Special ( Gr.III ) Purse $300.000
  • Pimlico Race Course- For Three year olds and Up
  • One Mile and One Quarter in distance, Main Track
  • Friday May 15th, 2020

As I stated in the preview, Burning Approval ( Mb Stables ) should be toted a slight edge in this affair as that now four year old was able to capture last seasons Gr. I Travers up at Saratoga, going the same distance as this event. His trainer has slowly been extending his distances, and as he does like to close, this event will suit him well. He is also the top career money earner of the group, with more then $2200.000 in earnings to his credit. Should draw the post time favorite.

One who will definitely be looking to topple this runner is Night Rider Stables Gunpowder Choice. Just captured the Gr. III Excelsior last month, and when he competed in the Gr. I Pegasus Gold Cup in his seasonal debut, he managed to place third just a head shy in the photo, while earning an impressive 102 SRF figure for his efforts. As long as his rider has him placed withing a couple of lengths off the turn fpr home, this could all fall into place.

Two others of the group with some leverage off recent races will come from What Moon ( Supreme Beast ) and Shanghai ( Nakamura Stables ). What Moon placed runner-up in his opener of the season, the Gr.III Swale Stakes. While he has raced at the Free track LRL for non purse stakes, he should have a feel to stalk the pace on the day and stay in the hunt late. As for Shanghai, he made a third place finish in his most recent Gr. II OP Hdcp. staying close throughout. He has earned two 100 SRF numbers in his past three starts, and can stay in the mix for this event to be productive. This trainers other entry of Market Value has chosen to remain with Gryder in the irons, this coming after two unsuccessful attempts at finishing in the top three.
