The Very One – Grade III
GP Race #7 1 3/16m Turf Graded Stake
Purse $150.000 For Fillies And Mares Four Years Old And Upward.
1 Bonkers, trained by Team 7 Illusions
Eats up this sort of trip as she showed on her seasonal debut when winning an FG optional Claimer by a very easy four lengths. She took the grade three Red Carpet Stakes as a three year old and looks the type that improved half way through her three year old season and she may be ready to peak at four. She is working well on both surfaces and has a decent draw.
2 Eastern Sky, trained by Maxmillion Farm
She was a top three year old last year especially when she hit the turf. Third in the BEL Oaks she then took the grade one Beverly D before a brilliant effort in the BC Fillies and Mares Turf where she ran on the pace from a nightmare draw to finish fourth. Her defeat on seasonal debut was a bit of a shock but she is all class and i imagine she will be a lot sharper today.
3 Pip Kadabra, trained by Chili King Stables
She had a stellar season last year especially considering how much the four year olds struggled. The winner of this race last year she went on to a stunning victory in the Flower Bowl where she loved the soft ground and thrashed them by a very easy three lengths. She disappointed in the BC but looked back to her best in the Marshuas River where she ran on strongly late on to be a half length third. That run should bring her on and i expect a big show from her today.
4 Wednesday, trained by Fractious
This filly may be a little under rated here after a consistent three year old season. She has been pretty consistent since being claimed back in October last year running second in a couple of graded stakes. The trip may be the question mark for her here especially as she meets some seasoned stayers.
5 Taking Liberties, trained by Gdp Inc
Another that may be a little under rated she has run some good races in top company without quite breaking through. Graded stakes placed at three she ran some great races as a four year old most notably when only beaten a length in the Rodeo Drive but she only managed the one win and that was at ungraded level. Her seasonal debut followed her career trend when she stayed on into fourth in the La Prevoyante Handicap but her works are very strong and there’s no doubt she has the ability if she can put her heart into the finish today.
6 Nothing Given, trained by Our Athletes
A lightly raced winner of five from twelve she really hit her stride from halfway through last year when she won the DMR oaks and then only got beaten a head in the garde one Rodeo Drive. She struggled a little after those efforts and has been in a little bit of a lull since but she is another who could get into the finish if she brings her A game.
SUMMARY
A small but tricky field a good case could easily be made for any of them. I rather like Pip Kadabra for this especially if the rains come but the likes of eastern Sky and Bonkers will be tough to beat from their decent draws.
