Play Ball Takes a Big Scalp

The Smith Handicap – Grade III
1 3/8 Mile Turf Stake Purse $250.000 Open 3 Year Olds And Up.

1st Play Ball, trained by Mb Stables
If ever there was proof that the handicapping software at HRP works on potential rather than performance then this was it. This three year old with just one ungraded stakes win had to give a BC Turf winner a pound which in real life would be ridiculous, but in HRP land the rules are different and that goes for handicapping too. Whatever reason this three year old was given top weight, he stalked the lead and dug deep to win this race by a nose. That is impressive to do that in a handicap and clearly he is an improving sort as he was winning at lowly LS not so long ago.

2nd Valar Morqhulis, trained by Gdp Inc
A clear leader for much of the way he very nearly lasted home in a game effort.

3rd Tundra Kenny, trained by Australia Wide
Where to go now for last years BC Turf winner! He kept on pretty well to be beaten less than a length but not being able to beat a three year old when getting weight surely spells the end of his career.

4th Full Speed Ahead, trained by Night Rider Stables
Tends to leave things a bit late and did so again today rattling home too late.
