Plenty at Stake in The Frizette

The Frizette – Grade 1 – $400.000

AQU – For Fillies Two Years Old

1 Mile – Dirt

October 2, 2022

Winner takes all – a trip to the Juvenile Fillies come BC day. But that’s not all. The Frizette carries much coveted KYO points as well. Lucky Star (Calia Stables) has been impressive in all her starts, except the Grade 3 Schuylerville where she finished fifth. But she followed that up with an impressive four-length wire-to-wire win in the Grade 1 Spinaway. Telling All (Nakamura Stables) has won her last two races by a combined seven lengths and made it look easy, but she is yet to try graded company. This race also draws Schuylerville winner, Sioux Gathering (Rock Creek). Didn’t do so well in the DMR Debutante (Grade 1), but if she can get back to Schuylerville form, she will be competitive here.

Let’s look at the field:

Late Scratch: Rabbit Bay (Smokey Stover)

#1 Indien Rouge (Mb Stables) Won the $200.000 Seeking the Ante in state-bred company at SAR last out. Her only try at graded level came in the Grade 3 Adirondack where she finished fifth. Tries graded again and should be more successful this time.

#2 Double Dragon (Fractious) Won the $125.000 Rio Grande Senorita Futurity in NM-bred company two starts back. Finished seventh in the DMR Debutante (Grade 1) last out, her only try at this level. Works aren’t as strong as some. Will need a big effort.

#3 Count The Souls (Chili King Stables) Wired the field in the CA-bred Generous Portion last start. Tried graded level in the Grade 2 Sorrento Stakes two back but couldn’t hit the board. Another one that needs a big effort against these.

#4 Telling All (Nakamura Stables) Coming in off back-to-back big wins. Broke her maiden by four in CA-bred company, then followed that up with a three-length victory in the $200.000 Sorority  Stakes at MTH going a mile. Cuts back in distance here and tries graded for the first time.

#5 Lindt (Hippyheart) Big win breaking her maiden at DMR last out earns this filly a place in the gate here. Never worse than second in three starts. Still, it took her three tries to get that maiden win. May lack experience to compete with these.

#6 Lucky Star (Calia Stable) Won the Spinaway (Grade 1) by four after leading at every call last start. Looks like the one to beat, especially if it comes up muddy.

#7 Style (Fractious) Just a maiden win for this one. Finished second in the $200.000 Sorority Stakes last out behind Telling All. Might be a little lacking in experience against these.

#8 Sioux Gathering (Rock Creek) Won the Grade 3 Schuylerville two starts back, then finished well up the track in the DMR Debutante (Grade 1) last out. That and a short turnaround makes this one questionable.

#9 Tokyo Story (Smokey Stover) Not much luck in graded company for this filly. Her only win came in a maiden special weight at CD in her second start. Since then she has been close, but hasn’t been able to get the win. Likes to come from behind. We’ll see if she can get past these.

#11 (PP10)  Gumption (Alydar Stables) Second in the Grade 3 Adirondack, then finished sixth in the Grade 1 Spinaway. A lot of talent but not sure she’s up to the competition.

#12 (PP11) Bourbon West Party (Mb Stables) Never worse than second in four career starts, including a second place finish last out in the Grade 1 Spinaway. Still only a maiden win to her credit. Could have a say in the outcome.
