Poor Turn Out for Selene Stakes

Selene Stakes – Grade III
WO Race #8 1 1/16m Dirt Graded Stake
Purse $125.000 For Fillies Three Years Old.

1 Really Healthy La Canada Racehorses Contreras L

Just the four runners but a competitive little race and no reason why this impressive allowance winner from last time out couldnt get her first black type win. She is certainly an improved filly this year winning her last two with strong front running performances albeit at a slightly lower grade. If she can get a soft lead today she could be hard to peg back.

2 Spicy Poke Estero Farms Wilson E J

Bought for $100.000 after a game all the way win in the Any Limit last time her biggest hurdle here may be the trip and the way she is ridden. In her last two attempts at a route she has got up on the pace and weakened so i am pretty sure she will be restrained today. If it works she is certainly good enough to win and she has the perfect draw to do it from.

3 Out And Bad Night Rider Stables Boulanger G

She is another who may struggle with this trip but she too has a touch of class and is an ungraded stakes winner so must be given some respect. The key again will be helping her see this trip out but on her best form she is right in it.

4 Techno Cheryl The Sidley Stud Campbell J

This one has been highly tried since winning the Lady Finger Stakes last year but whilst she has raced in such races as the grade one Alcibiades and the GP Oaks she has yet to live up to her great win in the grade three Tempted over a mile. The big advantage she has is that she looks more of a router than her rivals but she laso looks much better on an off track which she may not get today. So wet track and she wins, dry track and she goes into the mixing bowl with the others.

SUMMARY

Lots of speed in this race but only Techno Cheryl has proven route form which may give her the edge. With the two and three likely to be restrained to get the trip though i am going for Really Healthy to get away with some easy fractions and have enough left to win.
