Power Grid Revels on the Dry Track to Take The TAM Derby

The TAM Derby – Grade III [KYD]
1 1/16 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $400.000 Open 3 Year Olds.

1st Power Grid Fractious Moore R L

Whilst the real-life R L Moore plies his trade elsewhere in the world, so we continue to see one of the World’s Best Jockeys have his extended holiday in HRP’s version of America. So much for real life but that will not bother Power Grid as the three-year-old son of Power, claimed for just fifty dollars, took a big stride towards the KYD. His form before the Southwest was brilliant but the slightly off track tripped him up on seasonal debut and he ran a no show behind Bad Debt in that race. Today however the track stayed dry and with the benefit of that race he powered home for a half-length win making it 5 from just 7 starts. The pace in the end was good but not crazy so getting into the front group, not far off the leader, was perfect for the gelding. He moves on now as a leading KYD chance.

2nd Backroad Bounty Aer Stables Davis D

Considering his draw, he ran a decent race to be second and one has to say that he covered a lot more ground than the winner which seemed to be able to move two horses wide with effortless ease. He was out run down the stretch but lost nothing in defeat after a tough run and he will be sure to continue to be a menace in the run up to the KYD, especially if he gets a more favorable draw.

3rd Gold Vault Fractious Geroux F

Despite a poor run in the Davis, he proved today that he is no also ran with a solid finish in third very nearly snatching a one two for the trainer. The inside is not always an easy place to make ground, so he did very nicely. The wide drawn stable mate missed the kick a little so ended up setting just an average pace when he made the lead and maybe that was the undoing of this closer. Look out for him in the last of the qualifiers.

4th One Beer South Shore Stables Cabrera D

Looked happier on the dry ground today and ran well to be fourth. He is a real consistent sort who may miss out on the Derby if he cannot find his timing or a turn of foot before the qualifiers dry up. If he doesn’t make it, then he may be a chance in the second or third legs.
