SA Derby – Grade I [KYD]
1 1/8 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $1,000.000 Open 3 Year Olds.
It was great to see the best horse in the race win this impressively and we may finally have another Five Fives on our hands and a very possible TC winner. There was a rather quick early pace which saw off a few of his rivals but he could do nothing more than win impressively. It may be early days to ask but i think Estero Farms should start thinking about what he will spend his $46K on!
1st Pretty Ferro Estero Farms Velazquez J R 1:47.79
A rather swift early pace saw this one settle way off the pace. As the leaders weakened he pulled wide of the weakening traffic and came down the centre of the track like a bullet to win going away by 4 easy lengths. This is the son of Ferro’s fifth straight win with the last three being in competitive qualifying races and he will almost certainly start favourite for the run for the roses.
2nd Commands Fate Eastern Equine Baze T C 1:48.72
He settled well off the rather quick early pace and came through late as the winner did. Well beaten by the impressive winner he managed to find gaps where others ploughed into an almighty traffic jam.
3rd Sneaky Little Heist Joseph Racing Bejarano R 1:48.85
I feel like writing ditto here as he did exactly the same as the first two and found the gaps where others did not.
4th Wild Fame Jive Inc. Colon L H 1:48.93
Closer than the first three to the nippy early pace he tired late to end up fourth managing to block the lat comers just long enough to hold on.
