Proud Eights Looks to March on to the BC

KD Ladies Turf – Grade III
KD Race #3 1m Turf Graded Stake
Purse $750.000 For Fillies And Mares Three Years Old And Upward.

Not a win and you are in BC race but this one carries a big purse and has tempted some very good fillies, some of whom are already in the BC. The great La Terrifiant won the race last year and if any of these turn out that good their trainers will be very happy.
Here is how they line up:

1        Ultimately Flawed      Williams9          Silvera Ru

Thrown in here and whilst on paper she has little chance she does at least get a decent draw. The winner of three she looks somewhat off the pace of these at this level.

2         Pink Kitten         Threshold           Lezcano J

On the quick back up she has switched from her sprinting role recently but for some reason seems to have lost all her early pace. That may be a problem here from this draw but i am assured the trainer will be doing everything they can to get her out of the gate and closer than a tailed off last in the first quarter.

3         Casting Couch Cutie     Arindel             Saez L

Three year olds have yet to make the impression they have in previous years at this level but i feel their time may be coming and this would be a great place to start. Third in the BEL Oaks and fourth in the DMR Oaks she certainly has the class to be a contender and the draw to do it from. Her work times are comparable to the best of the older horses so there is no reason with a 3Lb advantage that she cant be involved in the finish.

4        My Girl Makita       Smokey Stover           Gutierrez Mario

A very good three year old she was a close up fifth in the BC Fillies and mares Turf last year but has been a little on the easy list this year. Having said that despite not running at grade one level she has picked up a grade three and a grade two and was a solid third in the Ballston last time. She looks a solid chance from a good draw and the sort of form that will make her very nearly favorite to win.

5       Starship Qanon      TwinTowersRacing         Ryan S

Yet to break through she does have a couple of placings at ungraded level. She didn’t really show up in the Beverly D last time and may be a little better o dirt but it is clear she has ability and the stable knows how to get them to run their best. The mile will suit.

6      Notorious Crown       Mb Stables       Jaramillo E

When the champion trainer takes a stakes winning filly to the likes of LAD and TAM you know they are looking for that something extra and watching her win in the De La Rose last time they my just have found it. There is still a lot to prove for her at this level but i have a feeling that she wouldn’t be here unless the trainer knew she was ready.

7      Phoe Eva         Angelos Stable        Carrasco V R

A decent sort who is improving nicely she was a good third over this trip in the King Edward Bc last time against the boys and had previously won the Wiltshire against her own sex over this trip. This is her best year so far so i think she is going in the right direction and i wouldn’t be surprised to see her surprising a few of the bigger names here.

8       Hash Tag Hash        Fractious          Velazquez J R

The two more recognizable names in this race are wide here with this being the first of the heavyweights. A little disappointing in the Yellow Ribbon last time with a big weight she had previously taken the Just A Game by a nose with Pink Kitten behind. If she can handle this gate she looks well in here like a grade one winner should be.

9          Hawaii County      Mb Stables           Hernandez C J

The next of the heavyweights may be the best three year old in the race in Hawaii County. The winner of the Regret she went on to run a nice fifth in the BEL Oaks and fourth in the SAR oaks and whilst she isn’t as good on paper as the older two big names she is working the sort of times that with a 3 Lb pull put her right in the top three.

10         Proud Eights       Estero Farms        Bejarano R

No doubt this is the best in the race she is heading towards female of the year and already sits as the BC Fillies and Mares turf favorite. Three times a grade one winner this year she killed them in the Beverly D last time and probably would have won 4 grade ones in a row if the track hadn’t bee wet in the Diana the time before that. I guess the only question is the draw and she will need to get away fast and clear a majority of the field but if she does that she looks the obvious choice.

SUMMARY

Proud Eights looks the stand out here but there is the odd question mark with the trip and the draw. Of the rest Hag Tag Hash and Hawaii County look the obvious choices for places but there are a few on the inside who may benefit from the draw and i expect a big run from My Girl Makita and maybe a big effort from Pink Kitten arriving late on the scene.
