Pup Plays Hide and Seek with The Long Island Field

The Long Island Handicap – Grade III
1 3/8 Mile Inner Turf Stake Purse $400.000 Filly & Mare 3 Year Olds And Up.

1st Hide N Seek Pup Gdp Inc Pennington F

This five year old hadnt really looked like a wet tracker in the past but she was probably the best horse in the race and clearly handled the going better than her main rivals. Taken well back off the early pace she flew home to win by an easy three lengths. This was a deserved win at the end of a good season and she is showing no signs of age so may be back next year, maybe even a little bit better.

2nd Chai Mission Maxmillion Farm Rosario J

This was the wet tracker but she was taken even further back off the early pace and whilst she finished well for second the winner had already flown by the time she got going. This was a decent effort on her favored going but she never looked like getting to the winner.

3rd Feel The Thunder Mb Stables Colon L H

Sat behind the pacemakers but just whacked away at the one pace as the two closers swept by. She looked inconvenienced by the wet track and would have got closer in the dry.

4th Cross Culture Mb Stables Ortiz I Jr

Beaten a long way back in fourth as she was restrained to make sure she got the trip.

SUMMARY

Once again a turf race with Colon and Pennington riding and as with most of these races one of them was on the winner, this time it was Pennington’s turn. Those jockeys really are worth a few lengths in any turf race which seems just a bit strange but hey it is what it is. The soft ground made the result look a bit odd with regards to the distances between runners but i feel the best horse won on the day.
