This was an exciting edition of the Murphy Stakes that saw puzzle pieces pick up his first stakes win on turf after picking up the pieces in the race. There were honest early fractions in the race set by Hollywood Henderson that saw a trio of horses sitting right in behind him including the runner up finisher Chapter In the Fog, Luft Orama and Burgandy Ranch. With just over 2 furlongs to go Chapter In the fog really started to make his move on the leader from his nice stalking trip, at the same time in the middle of the field Puzzle Pieces and the eventually fourth place finisher Noble O Noble also hit their best strides and started to pick their way toward the front. Chapter in the Fog struck the front just over 1 furlong out but that lead was short lived as just inside the final half furlong Puzzle Pieces blew by him like he was standing still, and pulled away to a measured half length win. The owners of each of the top three finishers in the race have to be very proud of the effort there horses put in as all of them ran a great race.
