Sometimes, a change of scenery can be good in sports. In other sports, when a player is traded and suddenly start playing better or reverting back to their prior form, it is said that all they needed was the new system. In horse racing, especially virtual horse racing, that is a more difficult analogy to make, but something that can still play a part. For Quakerce, being placed in a $40.000 claimer off a seven length defeat in Grade 1 seemed to mean that prior trainer, Sir Daniel Martin, wanted to move on from the former BC Juvenile Turf winner. She ended up with Fractious, and bounced back nicely to pick up the win at the Grade 3 My Charmer. We’ll see what the future holds for her, as while this was not a Grade 1, it wasn’t a walk in the park, either. Fractious is a first time winner of the stake, as is jockey C Landeros. Congratulations to them! The time of the win was 1:32.93. As this was just the second running of the race at a mile, we can only compare it to last years time, and it was quicker by half a second. Let’s take a look!
(1/4 Mile- :23.43)- Everyone breaks cleanly out of the starting gate, and as we move into the opening turn, it is Sandset taking the lead for Team 7 Illusions. She pulls a length in front, with the eventual winner, Quakerce, running in the second spot for Fractious. Lucifers Wings, out of Paradise Stable, looked like she might be the one to lead initially, but would instead opt to settle into third, and be two lengths back. Just another length back is where we find our final two, T S Dancer (Triple K), and Twinny (Maxmillion Farm).
(½ Mile- :46.62)- Sandset continues to pace the field with an uncontested lead, running a similar second quarter as she did the first. Quakerce is second, but not applying any pressure at this point as she waits for her time to strike while along the rail. Twinny moved up alongside her now as Lucifers Wings dropped back further, and now trailed the field, and a spot behind T S Dancer. That one was looking to take over the lane between Quakerce and Twinny as we made it down the backstretch.
(Top Of Stretch, 1.5F To Go)- The backstretch trip ended much the same way as it was at half a mile, from front to back. Within the turn, however, the field began to put the head on Sandset, and it would come on both sides of her. Quakerce had run a smart race while riding the rail, gradually gaining within the turn, and had a nice lane on front of her for the stretch to simply hold her ground for the rail trip. Twinny was gaining while in the third lane, and was even with Quakerce at this point. Each of them seemed destined to pass Sandset, but a good battle may be setting up between them up to the finish. T S Dancer was moving forward a bit, and Lucifers Wings was becoming resurgent, as she looked for an outside stretch move.
(Finish- 1:32.93)- As the stretch run began, it was looking like Twinny was going to get the better of Quakerce. Each of them passed Sandset, who held her own better then it seemed like she would. Still, the race was coming down to Quakerce and Twinny, and it would not be until the final half furlong, where Quakerce found some additional power in her stride that Twinny did not have. This allowed her to move into the lead and score a win by a head. Sandset is third, running a quality race. Lucifers Wings and T S Dancer were not able to make their presence felt in the stretch.
About The Winner- Quakerce, trained by Fractious and ridden to victory by C Landeros, is a three year old filly by Farce, and is out of the late Rosa Quake. She was bred in Florida by Team 7 Illusions, and acquired by the trainer via Sir Daniel Martin in a $40.000 claiming race in her last start last month. Congratulations to the connections! The win is her eighth in 16 starts, her third stake win and second graded win. Her career earnings are now $871.600.
