La Canada Stakes G3 1 1/16th on Dirt
Purse $100.000 For Fillies And Mares Four Years Old And Upward
Santa Anita Park, Arcadia Ca.
R U Ready To Code from The Sidley Stud just pulled off a major upset by winning the La Canada Stakes at Santa Anita Park today. A toss out by many handicappers, the astute lunch money claim got the last laugh and proved she belonged. One of those great rags to riches stories that proves no matter what it looks like, it is still always a horserace. Congrats to the connections on a great claim and a huge win! Absolute Zero from Rock Creek was making her sixth start for the barn since a private purchase for $37,000. She ran the best race of her career but had to settle for second. Hats off to the connections for a job well done. Interestingly, she got smashed hard at the windows, so somebody knew something. American Sky from Riggins Racing ran super to just come up a tad short off the layoff. A win looks on the near horizon. Wavy Girl from Saratoga Stud was caught wide the whole way and did not have quite enough late to get to the stretch leaders. Tab for the next start with a better post.
Of the rest:
Eilonwy from Twin Towers Racing was away last and also ran in spots about the half mile pole. Still closed some ground, so expect better next time out with a decent trip.
Decimas Queen from Maxmillion Farm pressed the speed three wide the whole way and tired at crunch time.
Marina from The Sidley Stud appeared to spit it out passing the half mile pole and then picked it up again but hit her best stride too late here today.
Hobo Blues from Alydar Stables sat in fifth position most of the way and then got passed late by a few rivals late in an even effort.
Lois D Nominator from Invicta Group Llc. came out in close range of the leaders and then made a bold move around the clubhouse turn to take over. She tired at crunch time and backed out of it to run ninth.
In Progress from Twin Towers Racing came out well and then settled right behind the speed before tiring entering the drive to run tenth.
Never In Charge from JKK Racing Stables had a dump truck of money put on her early and it just kept coming in to make her the post time favorite, something most handicappers found puzzling. Unfortunately for her backers she dropped back to last at the half mile pole and never made a move in a puzzling betting and running display this afternoon.
