The Jaipur (Grade 1) (BC)- $500.000 Purse
SAR- For Three Year Olds and Upward
Five and a Half Furlongs on the Turf
June 7, 2025
The big story of the Jaipur was not necessarily that Exemplary won the race, but all the scratches that took place beforehand. A nine-horse field was cut to five as just the little bit of virtual rain, downgrading the turf course to good, was enough to see four horses opt for alternatives. So, indeed we would have a “win and you’re in race” for the BC Turf Sprint only have five runners. Exemplary was the huge favorite for the race, being selected by over half of those who made a pick in the Pick ‘em, making him a 4/5 favorite. (Exemplary got 44% of the selections before the game then accounted for the pre-scratch picks that then made Exemplary the choice, putting him at over 50%). He is trained by Mb Stables, and it’s his fourth in the race. J R Velazquez was the winning rider, doing so for the fifth time. This duo also teamed up with last year’s winner, Drinkin Creepin. Congratulations to them! The race was won in a time of 1:02.88. Here’s a look at it:
(1/4 Mile- :22.59)- Out of the gate first, it’s Awad, and the D J C Racing Stables entry will show the way down the backstretch, being clear by a length. Little Tiger holds the second position for Ajm Stables and is positioned to the outside of the leader. Last Last Last hopes to not finish where his name says and is third on the rail for Lanfranco Stable. It’s another length to our eventual winner from Mb Stables, Exemplary, and trailing the field right behind him is longshot Teterboro, from Chili King Stables.
(Top of Stretch, 1.7F To Go)- Awad holds the top spot while rounding the turn and remains in front at the top of the stretch, but the rest of the field is getting closer. Little Tiger was in the best spot go by first, pulling to within a length on the outside while Last Last Last ran evenly on the rail. Looking interesting here was Exemplary, as J R Velazquez would move him over a lane to potentially go by the frontrunners while three wide. At this point, he was about a length and a half back. Teterboro was still the trailer, but only two and a half out himself, so plenty of time for him to make a run as well.
(Finish- 1:02.88)- Exemplary gains on the leaders early in the backstretch, and with a furlong to go, he cruises on by, taking the top spot and never looking back. He would go on to win by a comfortable two lengths, and punching his ticket to the BC, something that he was likely going to be in no matter what. Teterboro would get by everyone else in the stretch to be second, with Little Tiger settling for third by a neck of Last Last Last. Awad fell to the back.
About The Winner- Exemplary, trained by Mb Stables and ridden to victory by J R Velazquez, is a four-year-old colt by Tactical and is out of The Belle Tolls. He was bred in California as a first quarter two-year-old by Mb Stables, the only trainer for which he has ever known. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his third in a row, and his sixth in 21 starts. He has five stake wins and four graded wins and now has $2,423.220 in earnings.
