Rain Likely for Silverbulletday Stakes

Silverbulletday Stakes (KYO)- $150.000 Purse
FG- For Fillies Three Years Old
One Mile and Seventy Yards on the Dirt
January 19, 2019

It’s the 14th running of the Silverbulletday Stakes, a race that will be worth valuable KYO points. There will bigger races, but anything that is earned now can make a big difference between being part of the field, and barely missing out. Last year, we saw Enoughs Enough get the win here, and she went on to run in the KYO, though was a non factor, much as she was last week in the La Canada Stakes. The last two years have seen Mb Stables and S X Bridgmohan hook up for victories. They will be apart for this race, but both would love to extend their personal winning streak. There is a high chance of rain, as of press time, for this race. The gate is full, so let’s take a run through the field.

#1- Ice Cream Truck (First Street Stables, ridden by J Lermyte)- This will be her first race since running in the BC Juvenile Fillies Turf two months ago, a race in which she ran fifth. She has been running on the grass for most of her career, but the money is made on the main track this time of year, and Ice Cream Truck looks like she might have been waiting for this change anyway. Likely to come from behind, unless that will be changed up, too.

#2- Artificial (Mb Stables, ridden by A Beschizza)- This one is by Grandeur, who also sired last year’s winner, Enoughs Enough. She only has one win to her credit thus far, though until her last races, she was usually in the mix at the end. Thanks to finishing second in the Jessamine, she also ran in the BC Juvenile Fillies Turf, but finished in the double digits. Didn’t bounce back how I would have liked in the Grade 2 Golden Rod at CD.

#3- Kaikoura- Scratched

#4- Summertime (D J C Racing Stables, ridden by C Hill)- It might be the wrong time of the year for her, but she does have Snowmizer in the blood, so that makes up for it. So far, we have most seen her against NY-bred competition, and that has gone well with second place efforts in both the $250.000 Maid Of The Mist, and the $100.000 Eastview. Won’t be the first horse that comes to mind as being the top threat, but certainly very capable of knocking them all off here.

#5- Queens Command (Allinthegate, ridden by C J Lanerie)- This Perfect Command filly has two wins in five starts, but it is a second place finish that will be the most impressive. After scoring those wins, she took on strong company in the Grade 2 Golden Rod at CD, and defeated Artificial in the process. She narrowly missed winner Dream Whisperer, who is working quite well at SA right now.

#6- Latin Heat (Treaux Farms, ridden by J Valdivia Jr)- The long time trainer searches for the big win with this Spanish Chai filly. She proved to be a great claim in July, as she was acquired for just $15.000, winning a shake against another stable. About a month ago, she in Valdivia hooked up to win the $75.000 Letellier Memorial Stakes at FG. Now, she runs long for the first time, and that will be the main question on her.

#7- Americana (Sccj Stables, ridden by C J Hernandez)- It took this filly a while to finally break her maiden, doing so in her last start, at PRX with the great F Pennington finally putting her over the hump. It is not unusual to see a horse carry that momentum and earn another win, and that is the plan on this one. Winning will require her best career effort. Speed figures are consistent, but could be higher.

#8- Whispered (Mb Stables, ridden by D Carroll)- So far, 60% of her career races have been on off tracks, so not surprisingly, there is a 90% chance of rain at FG on Saturday. Of the horses covered so far, there is a lot of inexperience on wet tracks, with only Artificial of the prior seven having won on one. Whispered has handled this very well, and will certainly not be surprised to see it wet again. This should bode quite well for her.

#9- Vamparina (Aer Stables, ridden by S X Bridgmohan)- Bridgmohan looks to extend his personal winning streak to three in this race, and leaves Mb Stables to go to rival Aer Stables in order to have that chance. Vamparina has one win in four starts, but her last effort, running second in the muddy Grade 2 Demoiselle should give the trainer confidence here. It’s been a little while since her last public work.

#10- Blondewithhandcuffs (Mb Stables, ridden by J Graham)- The trainer acquired this one frm Jerry Garcia Racing for $35.000 while she was still unraced. She comes into this race after breaking her maiden right here a couple days after Christmas. That was with Bridgmohan aboard, ironically. Looked good in that victory, but faces the toughest opposition she has seen, and unlike her stablemates, she’s never seen it wet.

#11- Panentheism (Smokey Stover, ridden by F Geroux)- Though I have no connection with this filly, I simply I have adopted her as one of my own, due to being a full sister to my stable star, Socotra Island. Last month, she ran second, though in an agonizingly close photo, to Southern Two Step at the Grade 1 Starlet. She should be able to build off of that momentum, and recent works have been impressive, especially her latest at AQU. Definitely can get it done, but don’t want to jinx her by picking her.

#12- Cover Girl (Aml Racing, ridden by R Santana Jr)- This filly has done everything right in her career thus far, but it is a lightly raced one. Just two starts have seen two wins, and she did get a nice wire to wire allowance win against three others at DMR in November. There is not much in the way of recent public works to go by with her, but what can be seen is showing progression. It will be interesting to see how she steps up here.

#13- Up And Good (Joshua Stables, ridden by J Bravo) Due to the early scratch of Kaikoura, Up And Good knows that she will be racing on Saturday. Most of her career has been in PA-bred races, and while she is always in the mix it seems, her only win was actually in a maiden claimer. Her last run was right here on New Years Eve at the same distance, in slop, with the same jockey, and she was third. This is a much tougher race then that allowance.

Prediction: 8-11-1-12 (off track); 4-11-1-5 (if fast)
