Raj Action Packed the One to Beat in The HOL Turf Cup

The HOL Turf Cup – GII
11/29/19
DMR Race 4 1 1/2M – Turf
Purse $200.000
Three Year Olds and Up

Here we have a field of seven runners for this years running of the grade two Hollywood Turf Cup here over the Del Mar turf course. It was once run at Hollywood Park but when it was shut down this race kept the name and was moved to Del Mar. Let’s take a look at the field.

1. Call Me Godd (18-4-0-6 $347.680), trained by Sir Daniel Martin

The first runner in the field here is a horse who really likes to closefrom very far back in all of his races. Every once in a while his running style will work but most of the time he runs out of ground. If the pace is abnormally fast he will be flying at the end.

2. Trouville (10-3-3-0 $245.140), trained by Royalty Stables

The next runner we come across in the field is also one that usually likes to come from the clouds when he runs. He ran second in the grade one Pattison Canadian International last out. If he can repeat that type of race in here he will have a very good shot to win.

3. Winter Solstice (20-4-6-6 $1,276.990), trained by John Henry

Now to this runner who is coming into this race off of a ninth place finish in the grade one Breeders Cup Turf. He is a grade one winner on the year even though it was on a soft turf course way back in may. I think he is just trying to get back on the winning path in this spot. He has a good chance to win.

4. Raj Action Packed (36-8-10-8 $1,666.540), trained by Arindel

Another horse that is coming out of the grade one Breeders Cup Turf here and he ended up finish sixth that day. He won the grade one Hirsch Turf Classic in his start before that so he is in good form. I think he will be very tough to beat in here if he runs like he did two races back.

5. Cherokee Charlie (32-7-2-8 $509.850), trained by Team 7 Illusions

Onto this runner here who in his last start ran a bad tenth in the grade one Hirsch Turf Classic. He is a grade stakes winner on the year but he is an inconsistent horse and can’t seem to put good races back to back. If he bring his top notch he has a chance but you never know how he will run.

6. Edging In (14-4-1-2 $151.610), trained by Nakamura Stables

Next runner in the field here and he is coming into this race off of a seventh place finish in the grade two City Of Hope Mile in his last start. Before that he did win a stakes race at Saratoga and ran the best race of his career. If he can repeat that it would at least give him a chance and winning in here.

7. Its True (16-6-2-4 $337.960), trained by YME Stable

Last and final runner in the field here and he is entering this race off of a win in the grade three Sycamore at Keeneland in his last outing. That was a big time win and he beat a very good field that day. If he can run like he did that day he may pull of a minor upset in here.

Summary

It is a pretty good field here for this years Hollywood Turf Cup and a couple of these are dropping in class looking to get back to their winning ways and a few are trying to keep going up the ladder. My top pick is Raj Action Packed off of the grade one drop. Good luck to all in the field.
