Rampage Stable Rules in American Derby at CD

7/2/22

   7   CD  American Derby (GII)

$200.000    3YO   1 1/16m Turf     122lbs +penalties

The American Derby (GII) didn’t play out the way I thought it would… nor anyone else, looking at the tote board.  Rampage Stables’ Oh Brother was close to the pace throughout the mile and a sixteenth turf stakes, and pulled away late to score by a length in a final time of 1:45, over the soft Louisville sod.  The obligatory dead-head was part of the festivities as 99/1 long-shot Tiz Chai ended on even terms with post-time favorite Boardwalk Empire, then another length to Union Mills in fourth.

Oh Brother is a 3yo bay gelded son of Roger Rabbit – Zees Sissy, by Z Cars, and he was bred in Cal by his owner, Rampage Stable.  This was his third win from ten starts, his first stakes win, and he now has earnings of $278.000.  Congrats to the Connections!

Oh Brother tracked the pace between horses, continued between through the lane, up to take over at the furlong marker, kept to task, won driving.  Tiz Chai midpack to the far turn, moved up to press inside, could not go with eventual winner, dead-head for the place.  Boardwalk Empire tracked the pace to the far turn, took over the lead from there, fanned 5p for the drive, out-finished, dead-head for the place.  Union Mills rated, fanned widest for the drive, evenly.  Cage Rage take well off of the pace, no chance.  Suspect broke alertly, set the pace to the far turn, folded.
