Another exciting day of racing at BEL is here and the Mt Vernon Stakes was just one of a series of great NY bred stakes races to run. This small field showed off their talents on this Memorial Day in a close finish. How Funny Storms out of the gate and pushes to the front to grab an early lead by 2 lengths in just over the first furlong of the race with both Raquette Lake and The Generals Out stalking 2 and 2 and ¾ lengths respectively with Charismatic Mojo at the back of the field hoping to close in late.  Two furlongs into the race How Funny increased the lead to a solid 3 lengths over his closest competitor Raquette Lake with an opening quarter in 23 and 2. How Funny kept the same lead with a half mile left in the race, running the first half mile in 46 and 4. The late runners started to make their move and with two furlongs to go The Generals Out had cut the lead to 2 lengths while Raquette Lake was 2 and ¼ behind, and Charismatic was still hanging 5 lengths behind. With a half a furlong to go Funny Storms early pace was getting the better of her and Raquette Lake and The Generals Out both passed her by. In a nail bitter down to the line Raquette Lake proved to be too tough and just nosed out The Generals Out, with Funny Storm finishing third and Charismatic Mojo finishing fourth.
