GII – MTH Stakes

$175.000 Graded Stake 1 1/8th Mile on Turf for Three & Up

Small fields like we saw in the MTH Stakes can often be pretty predictable and down right boring races. But this race was quiet the opposite. Pass The Pesos went off as the very heavy favorite but didn’t really show up today. He was last for almost the whole race and just couldn’t find another gear to get himself involved in the race in any way.

Early in the race Rookaholic took the early lead and get the perfect rail position around the first turn. Red Zebell took up the perfect stalking position a length and a half off while Sunny Gabe was another few lengths back of that.

Turning for home Red Zebell was able to slowly pick away at the lead and with a half furlong left took over the lead and never looked back. Rookaholic was able to hold off Sunny Gabe for a solid second place finish while Sunny Gabe finished third.

Red Zebell is proving to be an astute claim as he has now gone two for two after being claimed by new owners Blazin D in mid June.
