Whether or not Mb Stables intended to run Regal Portrait in the Frizette is something that only he will know, but if the trainer did indeed call an audible and made Regal Portrait the last minute entry in this field that allowed the race to fill and be run, then that is why he is one of the best our game has seen.   After running at GP early in September, she spent most of her time working at BEL, before returning to Florida for this race.  Up at BEL the rain came down in droves, creating a sloppy track.  Back in August, Regal Portrait didn’t care all too much for the muddy Adirondack, but did run well in the Susan, which is also part of the FL Sire Stakes.  She was second that day to Stolen Secret, who was up at the Frizette and ends up with nothing to show for this weekend.   Regal Portrait on the other hand, wins a $500.000 stake.   It won’t get her to the BC, but the trainer will be there anyway so he can enjoy this win.   It is the first career My Dear win for trainer and jockey, M Mena.   Congratulations!  Here’s how it went down.

1st- 4- Regal Portrait (11/1)- Our eventual race winner from Mb Stables was not that concerned with Muchokova’s big lead and got off to a pretty good start herself.  She would be second, though would be satisfied with running her own race.  There would be about two lengths of separation between her and third.   She would make up some ground towards the end of the backstretch run, but it would be in the turn that she was at her best.  By the time they hit the top of the stretch, she had a head in front of Muchokova and had daylight in front of her.   The same gap of 2-3 lengths to Dogs Money Maka was still in play, so things were looking very good.  In the stretch, it was clear sailing as there was no pressure coming from anyone from behind.  Regal Portrait cruises to the victory, winning in a time of 1:42.57, which barely misses a stake record by .03 seconds.  Regal Portrait is a two year old filly by Inspector Jacques (Charley Farley as well as Commanding’s mare, Dammit Jenn) and out of Dacori Mi Fasuwon (The Patriot line).  She was bred in Florida by Mb Stables, of whom she has raced for her entire career.

2nd- 2- Dogs Money Maka (1/10)- Look, we realize Negdog is a FL-breeding legend down here and all, but 1/10?  How did that happen?  This overwhelming favorite did not get off to a great start, content to run near the back of the pack, and 6-7 lengths from the lead.   In the turn, the Australia Wide entry began to make up that same ground on Muchokova that Regal Portrait did, and she would complete the pass in the stretch.  She would never get close to the winner though, and her second place really is more of a best of the rest type thing.

3rd- 3-  Muchokova (9/1)- The Blushing Meadows entry was strong out of the gate, leading the field down the front stretch and into the opening turn.  As the run into the backstretch began, she would open up by nearly five lengths.  The opening quarter went in :24.31 and half in :48.20.   Ran well in the backstretch, but in the turn, Regal Portrait was coming and there was absolutely nothing she could do about it.  Overall though, she was disappointing in the stretch, as she notably backed out of it, and showed no interest in trying to fend off Dogs Money Maka for second.

4th- 1- Angies Curry (491/1)- Crazy odds for a four horse field, but if I hit this I would eat curry for the first time, no doubt.   The few people that bet on the Night Rider Stables entry would never have a chance to scream their lungs out or begin to prepare how they would spend their winnings, as Angie Curry trailed from the start and would never be a factor.  She has now beaten a total of one horse in her last three races combined.
